Orebody complexity and project reporting – context is everything

9:10 AM - 9:40 AM

Biography

Mark is a geoscientist with some 30 years’ mining industry experience in exploration, mining geology, mineral resource estimation and reporting, mine reconciliation, and technical audits and due diligence. Mark has been based in South Africa, Western Australia and Queensland and provides technical advice, training and mentoring in all aspects of orebody knowledge. His technical experience covers a wide range of geological, geographical and mining settings. Mark is a Fellow and Chartered Professional of The AusIMM, and current Chair of the Consultants Society.
Dr Kym Runge
Group Leader - Separation
SMI-JKMRC, The University of Queensland

New technologies that will potentially enable processing of complex orebodies

9:40 AM - 9:55 AM

Abstract

Biography

Associate Professor Kym Runge is the leader of the Separation Research Program at the SMI-JKMRC which aims to develop novel separation processes to improve mining. It involves research into high voltage comminution, coarse particle flotation, classification and novel flotation reagents. Kym is a flotation specialist with 25 years experience. Her research has involved development of flotation simulation and diagnostic procedures, including the development of JKSimFloat, a flotation simulator. She also worked 10 years for Metso, the biggest mining equipment supplier, as a flotation consultant and researcher, aiming to develop improved flotation equipment, with a particular focus on coarse particles.

Dr Marcin Ziemski
Associate Professor
The University of Queensland

Energy complexities in complex orebodies

9:55 AM - 10:10 AM

Abstract

Biography

Marcin has spent over 20 years in the minerals industry as a researcher and consultant with extensive industry experience. He holds degrees in Systems Engineering and IT from ANU and a PhD in minerals processing from UQ’s SMI-JKMRC. He has a background in technology, mining software, energy efficiency, mine value chain integration and minerals processing. He has lead research in a variety of energy and mine optimisation projects. After almost a decade in the mining corporate sector, he (re-)joined SMI-JKMRC in mid 2017 and established the Mine Energy Transformation and Integration (METI) group.
Dr Randolph Pax
Principal
RAP Innovation and Development Pty Ltd

Dynamic concepts for mine to mill operation and optimisation

10:10 AM - 10:25 AM

Abstract

Biography

Dr Randolph Pax has a PhD in Physics from the University of New South Wales. He has undertaken research and development projects in a number of diverse industries including Steel, Sugar and aerospace and in the last 20 years in mineral processing where he has led major projects including acoustic measurement of grinding mills, mineralogy and rock breakage. Prior to starting his own company in 2010 (RAP innovation and Development) he was a Principal Research Technologist with Mineral Technologies for 3.5 years. His principal interests include instrumentation, control and dynamics and mathematical modelling. Applications include comminution, mineralogy and separation techniques.
Dr Kate Tungpalan
Postdoctoral Research Fellow
Sustainable Minerals Institute

A systematic approach of sample selection to predict processing performance of an ore body

10:25 AM - 10:40 AM

Biography

Has a BSc in Metallurgical Engineering and MSc in Environmental Engineering from the University of the Philippines (UPD), and PhD from JKMRC, The University of Queensland. Research works include geometallurgy, mineralogy and non-toxic mineral processing for small-scale gold mining operation. Prior to becoming a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at BRC, I was a faculty member in UPD. I was part of a research team who constructed mineral processing plants that utilize non-mercury, non-cyanide processing for the small-scale miners.
