Minimizing cost of rheology control additives for iron ore slurries/tailings for enhancing processing performance
1:30 PM - 1:45 PMBiography
YK has worked for over 30 years on surface chemistry and rheology of suspensions and have over 150 journal publications. He is ranked in the top 2% world scientist, a Stanford University ranking. He has research results on colloidal forces-rheology published in Engineering Textbooks; Rheology and Structure of Complex Fluids (1999) and Colloidal Suspension Rheology (2012). He has a mathematical model named after him for describing the ageing behaviour of clay gels. More recently he discovered the true mechanisms of time dependent behaviour of clay gels and found that the electrostatic double layer (EDL) repulsive force is responsible. He also discovered that the 3D network structure of monodisperse disotic Laponite gel was formed from sheets instead of disks contradicting the prevailing model. Recently he made a number of commercially useful discoveries – i) a new approach to safe tailings storage in the dam using UWA patented composite additives to reduce tailings viscosity so it can be pumped easily and then another cheap neutralising additive turning the tailings back to paste-like state at the dam and ii) a range of cost effective composite additives for mining mine iron ore achieving 54 to 60% Fe content from tailings with 44-55% Fe.
Mr Geoffrey Beros
Technical Marketing Manager
Queensland Pacific Metals
Design and Operation of Large Drum Scrubbers
1:45 PM - 2:00 PMBiography
Geoffrey Beros has qualifications in Economics from the University of Western Australia and Extractive Metallurgy from the Western Australian School of Mines. In June 2023 Geoff joined Queensland Pacific Metals as Technical Marketing Manager. His previous roles included Principal Consultant through Allegiant Minerals Engineering Pty. Ltd. and Senior Manager Technical Marketing with Fortescue Metals Group.
Geoff has over 40 years’ experience in the minerals industry with roles across all areas of the business. Some of his notable achievements within the iron ore industry includes instigating and managing the testwork, process design and commissioning of the initial Mesa J processing plant and leading a team which resulted in three patents covering cold iron ore briquetting. He also has extensive experience coordinating lump ore, sintering and pelletising testwork with notable research institutes and universities in Australia, China, SE Asia, Europe and North America. As well as iron ore, Geoff also has significant commodity experience with tin, tungsten, mineral sands and bauxite.

An innovation application of LJC Automatic Magnetic Flotation Separator (LJC)in Magnetite Processing
2:00 PM - 2:15 PMBiography
Wang Chao, graduated from the Department of Physics, Lanzhou University, specializing in physical mineral processing for nearly 15 years. He leads a research and development team won the reward of "the state innovation studio", and won the title of "the state Model Worker". The magnetic flotation separator developed by his team wons the honorary title of "the national key new product". He has participated in the design, construction and commissioning of the renovation projects of CITIC Sino Iron Ore Australia, ANSTEEL, CMP etc.

Effect of hydrodynamic parameters on iron ore reverse flotation
2:15 PM - 2:30 PMBiography
As project manager numerous projects ranging from bench scale laboratory tests to a pilot scale flow sheet confirmation campaign, analyzing test work data, I've gained valuable experience and knowledge. Under my current responsibilities is to provide development, engineering, and support to our clients within the Mining industry. Interested in challenging opportunities in operations, research and development, consulting, and/or management, that would allow furthering experience and skills whilst making continuous contribution toward meeting business's goals and objectives. I've worked in the Minerals Processing industry +15 years, during which I have been trained on various mineral beneficiation processes, including magnetic separation, gravity separation and flotation test work.
For over fifteen years, I have been translating cutting-edge mineral processing research into practical industry solutions, first in classification and physical separation and then flotation. I have worked with mining houses including Anglo American, Lonmin, Vedanta, Pilanesberg Platinum mines, Sibanye-Stillwater, Impala Platinum, Assore, Sylvania Platinum, Royal Bafokeng, Anglo Platinum, Ivanhoe Mines, Podium Minerals and Vale on PGM, gold, copper, cobalt, nickel, lead, zinc, iron, barite, apatite and phosphates processing projects in Africa, Australia, Europe and Latin America; and with equipment suppliers including MBE, GoldOre, FLSmidth, Eriez and Metso:Outotec to improve the performance of flotation equipment.
