Biography

Keith Vining has worked for CSIRO Mineral Resources for a period of over 20 years in the field of iron ore processing and has broad experience ranging from iron ore process mineralogy, beneficiation and agglomeration as well as the development of alternative strategies and production routes to sustain the Australian iron ore industry in the face of increasing ore complexity and declining grade. Keith is currently the Group Leader for the Process Decarbonisation group within the Processing program which undertakes research and development activities to support the decarbonisation of the iron and steel value chain and is Director of the Federal Government-Funded India-Australia Green Steel Research Partnership.

Keynote | Geoscience – Are we transition future fit?

Biography

Kerry Turnock is the Global Practice Lead Resource Knowledge with BHP’s Resource Centre of Excellence and is responsible for the transformational characterisation of in-situ and transformed rock mass at all stages of a deposit’s life cycle with front end loading of geoscience knowledge for superior decisions. Kerry has 30 years of resource sector experience spanning geoscientific, operational, technical marketing and technology disciplines. This multidisciplinary experience underpins Kerry’s ability to understand the value of geoscientific inputs for organisational decisions across the value chain, ranging from grass roots exploration, mining and processing, to the end customer and through to closure. She has a proven track record of successfully delivering break-through projects with functioning solutions that have resulted in realised benefits from resource identification through to improved mining practices. Kerry holds a Masters in geology from Monash University.

Biography

Alan is the co-founder and Managing Director of Imvelo.ai. He has extensive experience in senior operational, corporate and academic roles in the resources industry and has worked in 15 countries covering 9 commodities. Board roles include Chair of Orexplore, NED of Ideon, AIM Intelligent Machines and a member of the Federal Government’s Critical Minerals advisory board. Alan was previously the Vice President Technology at BHP, in his global role he was accountable for the execution of major technology and innovation programs across 5 commodity value chains. Designing and de-risking BHP’s future mining operations, establishing strategic partnerships and implementing digital and extractive technologies. Academic roles have included the Professor of Digital Value Chains at Curtin University and Professor of Mining and Geology at the University of Queensland Alan founded the Cooperative Research Centre for Optimising Resource Extraction (CRC ORE) as Chief Executive. CRC ORE was a $150m venture involving 34 partners with the purpose of ‘Transforming Mining to an Advanced Manufacturing Industry’. He has a PhD in mining engineering, a BSc in geology and is a fellow of the Australian Academy of Technology Science and Engineering.
