CSIRO
Supply Chain Approach to Iron Ore Dust Monitoring and Remediation (Pilbara, WA)
3:45 PM - 4:00 PMBiography
Priyanthi Hapugoda is a senior experimental scientist in the CSIRO Mineral Resources business Unit. She has a Master of Philosophy in the Field of Mining Engineering from the JKMRC, University of Queensland. Prior to joining CSIRO in 2008 she worked for the JKMRC as a mineralogist and as an expert user of the SEM mineral analysis software (MLA) which was developed there. Since joining the CSIRO, she has become an expert user of the light microscopy imaging system (CGA) which her team developed and commercialized. She uses her detailed understanding of the outputs from these particle mapping systems to contribute to and lead industry sponsored research and consulting projects investigating resource assessment, processing issues and product quality challenges. Over the past few years, she has also made significant contributions to environmental studies addressing issues associated with mine tailings and the discrimination of dust produced from mining operations from dust from other sources.
Ms Ruth Peiffer
Senior Air Quality Scientist
BHP
BHP Port Hedland Wind Fence: Innovations in dust control
4:00 PM - 4:15 PMBiography
Ruth Peiffer is a Senior Air Quality Scientist with BHP. She has had more than seventeen years’ experience in the field of air quality, with particular expertise in dispersion modelling and analyses and development of air quality monitoring and management programs. In her current role, Ruth provides subject matter expertise in relation to dust modelling assessments, dust monitoring analyses and development of dust management strategies. Ruth also has extensive experience in the compilation of emissions inventories for mining and energy sectors to support air quality impact assessments and National Pollutant Inventory reporting.
Dr Dusan Ilic
Senior Researcher
University of Newcastle
Development and implementation of low-cost sensors and LiDAR for managing dust emissions due to mining activity
4:15 PM - 4:30 PMBiography
Dr Ilic is a fellow, chartered engineer and research academic at the University of Newcastle, located at the Newcastle Institute for Energy and Resources with almost 20 years’ experience of consultancy and applied research. Over the last 5 years, using a foundation of bulk solids handling and particle science, Dr Ilic has established and grown multi-disciplinary research programmes including characterising workplace exposures, integrating low cost sensors and LiDAR into dust emissions management
