Speaker
Mr Alexandre Diragitch
Principal Geologist
RTX
Geological setting, structural evolution, and mineralisation of the ouéléba iron ore deposit, Simandou, Guinea: Implications for Archean-Proterozoic crustal development and later supergene ore formation
9:20 AM - 9:30 AMBiography
Alexandre Diragitch is a Principal Geoscientist with nearly 25 years of experience in exploration, mining, and resource development. He began his career in Brazil after completing a BSc in Geology and has worked in Australia since 2008. His technical background spans surface mapping, geophysical interpretation, mine geology, greenfield and brownfield exploration, 3D modelling, and resource evaluation. Alexandre completed a Master of Philosophy at Curtin University in 2014, focusing on nickel sulphide mineralisation in collaboration with CSIRO. He has held multiple senior geology roles and is passionate about regional exploration, integrating geology with mining operations, and mentoring developing professionals.
Dr Mario Zelic is a structural geologist with 20 years of international experience across exploration, resource development, mining operations and academia, working at the interface of geoscience, structural geology, geotechnical engineering and mine planning. He has led geoscience teams and technical programs for major global projects in Australia, Mongolia, North and South America, Africa and Europe. As Principal Structural Geologist at Rio Tinto Copper, he established and integrated structural geology standards into resource models, geotechnical designs and mine planning. Mario holds a PhD from the University of Pisa and has published widely, bridging academic research with applied mining challenges.
Prof Benoit Saumur
Professor
Université du Québec à Montréal
Structural controls on the metallogeny and distribution of the Mary River Fe-deposits, Canada
9:30 AM - 9:40 AMBiography
Dr. Saumur obtained his PhD from Monash University (Melbourne, AUS) in 2014. After a stint at the Geological Survey of Canada, he is now Professor at UQAM specializing in applied structural geology, intrusive systems and mineral deposits. His experience includes work in numerous Archean and Proterozoic terranes in Canada, including the Ni-Cu Voisey's Bay deposit of Labrador, several deposits of mid-northern Quebec, and the greenstone belts and Fe-deposits of the Rae Craton of North Baffin Island.
Mr Owen Shufeldt
Principal Geologist
Fortescue
The geology of the structurally complex Wyloo North Deposit
9:40 AM - 9:50 AMBiography
Owen has been working in Iron Ore for the last 13 years. Originally from the U.S., he moved to Australia in 2012 to help run Rio Tinto's bedrock mapping team. In 2018, he joined Fortescue and has been a part of the generative team in Exploration ever since.
