A critical thermodynamic & sustainability assessment of PCB recycling through secondary Cu smelting process

1:10 PM - 1:30 PM

Biography

Dr. Ashok Kamaraj is an Assistant Professor in the Dept. of Materials Science and Metallurgical Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad. The overarching theme of his research work is the physical simulation of steelmaking practices, the development of alloy steels, recycling, and the life cycle and sustainability analysis of metallurgical processes. Recent highlights of his research work are demystifying the shape effect of BOF on the liquid steel transfer process, designing and developing a hot model to simulate continuous casting in-mold phenomena, indigenizing technologies for cannon liner steel, and hydrogen standard (CRM) in steel. To his credit, he has published 27 research articles in a peer-reviewed journal, 12 publications in international conference proceedings, 1 software copyright, and 1 design patent. He received the Young Metallurgist (metal science) award from the Ministry of Steel (Govt of India) in April 2022, the Prof. Shilowbadra Banerjee Award (for the best In-house project) from CSIR National Metallurgical Laboratory in Nov 2022, and the M. S. Khan Memorial Award from the IIM Jamshedpur chapter in Feb 2020. His hobbies are listening to music and gardening. He is presently one of the editors of Transaction of Indian Institute of Metals and IIM Metals News.

Pyrometallurgical treatment of nickel smelting slag with biochar

1:35 PM - 1:55 PM

Biography

A doctoral researcher at Aalto University in Finland. My work focusses on investigating the use of non-fossil reductant like biochar or hydrogen in the recovering of valuable metals from non-ferrous slags. I graduated with a Master of Engineering degree in Extractive metallurgy from Stellenbosch University in South Africa.
