He currenty co-ordinates research for Extra Terrestrial processing at the University and a Program Leader in the ARC Steel Innovation Hub. He has also been active in recent years working with Physicists on Dark Matter detection research. Professor Brooks has published over 250 papers on fundamental aspects of steelmaking, aluminium production and materials processing in general. He has won significant international awards from the TMS, AIST, ASM and IOM3 for his contribution to metallurgical processing. Professor Brooks is a Fellow of the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining (UK).
Prof. Youn-Bae Kang
Professor
Pohang University of Science and Technology (POSTECH)
Reoxidation of Al-killed ultra-low C steel by FetO in CaO-Al2O3-MgOsat.-FetO slag representing RH slag by experiment and kinetic modeling
10:55 AM - 11:15 AMBiography
Professor Kang is currently affiliated at the Graduate Institute of Ferrous and Eco Materials Technology and the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at Pohang University of Science and Technology. He previously worked at Polytechnique Montreal in Canada, where he focused on the development of thermodynamic databases for oxides and alloys, as well as sophisticated solution models used in FactSage software. His expertise lies in high-temperature experiments for the chemical reactions of metals and non-metals, computational and solution thermodynamics, reaction kinetics, and mechanism analysis. His research interests encompass various important areas, including clean steel production, recycling of industrial waste (including ferrous scrap), low-C emission hydrogen production, and theoretical solution thermodynamics. He serves on editorial boards for several international journals, including ISIJ Int., Metall. Mater. Trans. B, and Steel Research International.
