Prof Daniel Lindberg
Professor
Aalto University

PLENARY | Challenges facing non-ferrous metal production

8:30 AM - 9:10 AM

Biography

Dr Daniel Lindberg was appointed as a tenure-track associate professor in Thermodynamics of Metallurgical Process in the School of Chemical Engineering at Aalto University, Espoo, Finland. Since 2023 he is a tenured associate professor. He succeeded Professor Pekka Taskinen as the head of the Metallurgical Thermodynamics and Modeling research group. Professor Lindberg has a MSc degree in Geology and Mineralogy (2002) and a DSc degree in Chemical Engineering / Inorganic Chemistry (2007) from Åbo Akademi University, Turku, Finland. He has also been a postdoctoral fellow and senior researcher at Ecole Polytechnique de Montreal, Canada, SINTEF Energy, Norway, and Åbo Akademi University, Finland. Professor Lindberg’s research has focused on thermodynamics, phase equilibria and chemistry of different high-temperature inorganic melts, ranging from magmas, molten salts and ashes in combustion and corrosion processes, as well as slags, mattes, and molten alloys in pyrometallurgical processes. He is also a close collaborator with the developers of the thermodynamic software Factsage and has developed databases related to mainly molten alkali salts. Professor Lindberg has published over 100 peer-reviewed journal articles, his teaching is mainly focused on Metallurgical Thermodynamics, and is currently the deputy head of the department of Chemical and Metallurgical Engineering at Aalto University.
