Prognostic models for electroslag remelting process and slag engineering
4:10 PM - 4:30 PMBiography
Prof. Ganna Stovpchenko was educated at the National Metallurgical Academy of Ukraine and has grown there as a researcher. She has completed many research projects and has provided numerous improvements to the steelmaking industry. Her scientific interests include steelmaking processes (primary melting in BOF and EAF, secondary refining, casting and special melting in ESR), environmental issues in steelmaking, and metal composites and additive technologies. She is the author and co-author of about 300 technical papers and the owner of 12 patents in the various fields of metallurgy. Since 2008, she worked for the National Academy of Science of Ukraine as a leading researcher. Prof. Stovpchenko has been elected and is a member of the Scientific Committee of the National Council of Ukraine for Science and Technology Development. Since 2022, she was invited to work in the research center of China First Heavy Industry Corporation as Chief Foreign Scientist.

Prof. Deepoo Kumar
Assistant Professor
Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay
Sulfur loss from the slag during desulfurization of liquid steel
5:00 PM - 5:20 PMBiography
Dr. Deepoo Kumar is currently working as an Assistant Professor in the department of Metallurgical Engineering and Materials Science at IIT Bombay. He is also associated with the Centre of Excellence in Steel Technology at IIT Bombay. He did his PhD from Carnegie Mellon University in 2018 in the area of secondary steelmaking and clean steel production. He worked for a year at the Praxair Technology Centre, Tonawanda, New York after his PhD.
His research expertise includes primary and secondary steelmaking, clean steel production, characterization of inclusions and high temperature experiments involving metal, slag and refractories. He has extensively worked on the application of FactSage, ChemApp, automated inclusion analysis, laboratory scale induction furnace and high temperature confocal laser scanning microscope in steelmaking. He is also exploring research opportunities in sustainable solutions for iron and steel productions, hydrogen-based ironmaking and e-waste recycling. Dr. Kumar has published more than 30 research articles in peer-reviewed journal and international conferences. He teaches courses on transport phenomena, steelmaking and kinetics of high temperature processes.
