Biography

Petrus Christiaan (Chris) Pistorius is POSCO Professor and Co-Director of the Center for Iron and Steelmaking Research in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University. His research focuses on pyrometallurgy and solidification. Previously he was an associate professor (1991-1996) and professor (1997-2008) in the Department of Materials Science and Metallurgical Engineering, University of Pretoria, South Africa, and served as the head of that department from May 2002 to June 2008. Chris has a Master's degree in Metallurgical Engineering from the University of Pretoria, and a PhD from the University of Cambridge, United Kingdom.

Biography

Dr. Lee graduated from Yonsei University with a doctoral degree in materials science and engineering. He has worked at HD Heavy Industries for over 5 years and is now currently a research professor at Yonsei University. His expertise is in the field of electrochemical metallurgy and has worked on several projects with regards to refining, hydrogen reduction and slag design for process by-product recycling.

Biography

Manuel Schickbichler finished his master's degree in metallurgical engineering in October 2022 and is currently conducting research during his Ph.D. studies. Schickbichler focused on inclusion metallurgy early on and finished both his bachelor’s and master’s theses in this field. Ongoing research regards the modelling of inclusion modification in the production process of powder metallurgical high-speed steels.

Worked at Kyushu University as an Assistant Professor from 2006 to 2012. At the same time, stayed at RWTH Aachen University as a Postdoctoral Researcher from 2010 to 2011. Work at the Kyushu university as an Associate Professor from 2012 to 2021. Work at the Kyushu university as a Professor from 2021 to present. Earned a Master of Engineering in 2003 and a Doctor of Engineering in 2006 at department of Metallurgy in Tohoku University. Research fields are kinetics analysis and thermodynamics of Iron and steelmaking Processes.
