Speaker
Dr Jonah Gamutan
Lecturer
Curtin University
Molybdenum disilicide production using a silicon-containing molten bath via the hot dipping method
11:20 AM - 11:40 AMBiography
Jonah is a Lecturer of Metallurgical Engineering at Curtin University's Kalgoorlie Campus, with a Ph.D. in Engineering Major in Metallurgy from Tohoku University in Japan. Her research interests include the development of green ironmaking technologies, thermodynamic investigation of clean steelmaking technologies during secondary refining of steels, development of surface modification techniques to enhance anti-oxidation properties in refractory metals and recycling of valuable metals from secondary resources such as steelmaking slag and electric arc furnace dust.
Ms MinJu Sun
Research Engineer
Hyundai Steel
A study of heat and material balances in direct reduction plant with various conditions
11:45 AM - 12:05 PMBiography
After graduating from the Department of Chemical Engineering at Dongguk University in 2017, I joined Hyundai Steel R&D Center, where I initially conducted research and operational analysis related to blast furnaces. Currently, my primary focus is on technological developments in hydrogen reduction and process balance in direct reduction iron manufacturing.
Dr Chris Pistorius
Posco Professor Of Materials Science And Engineering
Carnegie Mellon University
Slag volume effects on DRI-based electric furnace steelmaking
12:10 PM - 12:30 PMBiography
Petrus Christiaan (Chris) Pistorius is POSCO Professor and Co-Director of the Center for Iron and Steelmaking Research in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University. His research focuses on pyrometallurgy and solidification. Previously he was an associate professor (1991-1996) and professor (1997-2008) in the Department of Materials Science and Metallurgical Engineering, University of Pretoria, South Africa, and served as the head of that department from May 2002 to June 2008. Chris has a Master's degree in Metallurgical Engineering from the University of Pretoria, and a PhD from the University of Cambridge, United Kingdom.
