Post-Conference Activities
Perth Labs Tour
Date: Thursday 21 September 2023Time: 8:00am - 5:00pmLocation: return transfers from Perth Convention and Exhibition CentreTour Partners: ALS, Intertek and Nagrom
Overview: Participants of the Perth lab tours 2023 will have opportunity to observe the activities at three main analytical and processing facilities, servicing iron ore producers in the Pilbara, Australia. At ALS and Nagrom, delegates will learn of the CSIRO-ALS Hy-Logger core scanner, drop tower, crusher and grinding simulations for wet processing beneficiation, for direct reduced and blast furnace hematite and magnetite iron ores. At the new Intertek Maddington analytical facility, delegates will view the robotic/automated iron ore sampler, the Minalyzer core scanner, and various state-of-the art iron ore analytical preparation and instrumentations.
Morning tea, lunch, and return transfers from Perth CBD are included.
How to make materials handling decisions
Date: Thursday 21 September 2023Time: 9:00am - 1:00pmLocation: Perth Convention and Exhibition CentrePresenters: Emeritus Professor Mark Jones, Dr Jens Plinke
Overview: A detailed understanding of material properties is crucial to ensure optimal performance in the handling chain. When it comes to iron ore, specific test methods are available to assess its quality from a materials handling perspective. This helps differentiate between "good" and "bad" materials based on factors such as internal strength, friction, and cohesion. Testing outcomes provide valuable data, which, when interpreted correctly, inform decision-making to ensure optimal performance under a range of conditions, optimizing design, processing and transport efficiency.
However, it is essential to recognize that the landscape of available deposits is constantly evolving. As we extract ore from new deposits, new challenges are encountered, driving innovation in handling, processing, and testing technologies.
The workshop on ‘How to Make Materials Handling Decisions’ will introduce:
The importance of materials testing
Materials testing available for iron ore
What “good” and “bad” iron ores look like
Testing outcomes and their interpretation
Benefits of specific ore testing in the design process
The evolving challenges in testing and application
