New risk assessment method for coal mine excavated slopes

11:00 AM - 11:20 AM

Abstract

Biography

Alison is an experienced geotechnical engineer in both site based operational and corporate governance roles. Alison has worked primarily in open cut mining environments in Australia, Canada and South Africa and specialises in geotechnical mine planning, design optimisation and compliance auditing. Alison is a Chartered Professional (Geotech) and Registered Professional Engineer in Queensland. She obtained her Masters of Mining Engineering (Geomechanics) from the University of New South Wales in 2011 and Bachelor of Applied Science (Geoscience) from the Queensland University of Technology in 2007. Her research interests include rock mechanics and reliability based designs.

Hillgrove Resources

Mine rockfall and rock wall failures – proven digital laser-based approach for monitoring slopes at the Kanmantoo Copper Mine

11:20 AM - 11:40 AM

Abstract

Biography

Bruce Hutchison has 40 years of experience in the civil and mining engineering industries. his civil experience has been gained worldwide in Canada, China, the Philippines and Australia where he specialised in hydro-electrical and tunneling investigations and construction. In the mining industry Bruce has been involved in open pit production specialising in the geotechnical fields of slope stability, slope monitoring, and in mine planning; in civil engineering related to projects such as tailings dams, river crossings, and haul roads. he has been involved with acid mine drainage, rehabilitation and dump designs, Bruce was Senior Geotechnical Engineer/Principal Engineer at Grange Resources Savage River Mine for 15 years before joining Hillgrove Resources in April 2014. His mining career has also involved operations and consulting on mining projects in western Australia, Queensland and Mongolia.
Dr Simit Raval
Lecturer
UNSW Sydney

Evaluation of a UAV-LiDAR system for mapping geological structures in an open pit highwall

11:40 AM - 12:00 PM

Abstract

Biography

Dr. Simit Raval - a mining engineer and Co-Director of the Laboratory for Imaging of the Mine Environment (LIME), at UNSW Sydney. He has over 23 years of combined experience in the mining industry and academia. His previous professional experience includes overall responsibility for mine planning at an open cut mine and current research includes development of various advanced sensor integration (LiDAR, optical, hyperspectral, SAR) on a mobile platform for mining applications. He is currently leading two ACARP projects (C26030 & C27057) that involves structural mapping with mobile laser scanning.
