Abstract

Biography

Ashmita is an engineering geologist who has worked operationally and completed rock engineering studies for mostly underground mining projects in the South African gold, platinum and coal mining industry. She has spent some time tunnel mapping at Westconnex before trading the hustle and bustle of Johannesburg and Sydney for the friendly heart of NW Queensland to gain experience at a caving operation.

Biography

Kent has worked as a geologist, geotechnical engineer and consultant to the underground mining and civil construction industries. He currently works for DSI Underground – a ground support product manufacturer and supplier – as a Research and Development Engineer. He is based at the DSI Bennetts Green facility near Newcastle, but provides industry technical support across the Australasian region.

Biography

Daniel Johnson graduated from University of Tasmania with a Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) (Civil) in 2006. Since this time, Daniel has worked with pitt&sherry consulting based at the Launceston office. He has been responsible for civil and structural design, investigations and project management on a range of small to large scale projects. Daniel has gained experience and knowledge in a diverse range of projects including mine shaft stabilisation, industrial and mining infrastructure design, moving plant structural reviews, civil design, amusement ride structural reviews and contract administration.

Abstract

Biography

Roo Talebi is an experienced and practical geotechnical engineer, with over 10 years working in hard and soft rock mining. He career has mostly been spent on the eastern side of Australia, in the challenging poor ground conditions of the central Victorian mines. Roo developed knowledge and opinions relating to squeezing ground while managing the fast transition for extreme squeezing in the Lower Llanberris mining compartment at Ballarat Gold Mine.
