Biography

Dr Nga Nguyen received a Doctor of Engineering degree from RWTH Aachen (2013) and Master of Mining – Geology Economics degree from University of Mining and Geology in Viet Nam (2005). Today she is serving at the Vice Head of Department of Mining Management at University of Mining and Geology in Hanoi, Viet Nam. Her teaching and research focus on knowledge transfer in the mining industry, resources governance and social sustainable development. She has engaged in consulting projects in different mines in Viet Nam regarding safety management and cost management. She is an active member of Capacity Building Committee (Society of Mining Professors), and International Social Security Association on Prevention in the Mining Industry.

Biography

Anne-Claire joined Bettercoal as Executive Director in January 2017. She has over 15 years’ experience in raw materials (mining, oil and gas) sustainability, good governance and responsible supply chains having held positions with Royal Dutch Shell, Eurasia Group, the International Finance Corporation. She has ensured that through sustained stakeholder interaction that the commercial business imperatives are not impacted by regulatory, political, environmental and social risks. Throughout her career, Anne-Claire has focused on the commercially sustainable development of oil, gas & mining projects and extractive sector governance. She has successfully delivered projects touching on sustainable supply chain, local economic development, political, social and environmental risk assessment, governance capacity building and non-technical risk management in developing countries. She has been involved in oil, gas and mining projects and businesses in Africa, Asia, the Middle East and the Americas. Anne-Claire is a member of the Franco-British Young Leaders Network and an elected local Councillor.

Biography

Dr Harmony Musiyarira holds a PhD in Engineering degree from Witwatersrand University and Masters and Honours degree in Metallurgy from the University of Zimbabwe. Dr Musiyarira is the Head of Department of Mining and Process Engineering at the Namibia University of Science and Technology. He previously managed a Refractory High Temperature materials, Earthenware and Sanitaryware ceramics production. His teaching and research interests are in the areas of minerals processing, industrial minerals, mine water management and cleaner production application in the minerals industry.

I am a lecturer at the Department of Mining Engineering, Federal University of Technology Akure, Nigeria. I got my Bachelor and Masters degrees at the same University. I am presently a PhD student at the Universidade de Sao Paulo, Brazil. My teaching and research areas are on social and environmental aspect of mining and on sustainable development.

Biography

Dr. Kumral has over 20 years of experience in mining engineering research and teaching in Canada, United Kingdom (UK), and Turkey including surface mining; mine system optimization; reliability analysis, and mine risk management. Dr. Kumral taught mineral economics; open pit mining; mine project and valuation; and operation research. Over the years, Dr. Kumral has published many refereed journal and conference papers. In 2000, Dr. Kumral obtained his Ph.D. from the Department of Mining and Mineral Engineering at the University of Leeds, UK.
