Session 2: Validating Geological Interpretation

Biography

I am a structural geologist/sedimentologist and the conceptual founder of Leapfrog software (2001). I have used Leapfrog to interpret and model more than 600 deposits of many commodities worldwide. I continue to research new methods of presenting, processing, and interpreting 3D geological data for the benefit of the mining and mineral exploration industries. I am keen to pass on my knowledge to mining industry personnel, so please come and talk to me.

Mr Ronald Reid
Group Resource Geologist
Harmony Gold (PG Services) Pty Ltd

Session 2: Validating Geological Interpretation

Biography

Ron Reid has 20+ years experience in greenfields and brownfileds exploration, resource development, resource estimation, geological modelling, open cut and underground mining in Australia, Nicaragua, Namibia and Papua New Guinea. After completing a BSc(Hons) in geology at JCU he completed the RGC Graduate Trainee program working in various exploration and mining sites around Australia. After a period working in Nicaragua for a Perth based junior he undertook a number of contract positions in mining, exploration and petroleum within Australia and Papua New Guinea. Ron then worked as a GIS / Database geologist for a copper-gold junior and as a Senior Geologist working with uranium in Namibia before commencing with Harmony as a Resource Geologist in 2009. Ron has worked predominantly in copper and gold but has also worked in uranium, base metals, iron ore, and nickel. He was instrumental in the development of the current Wafi-Golpu structural geology model by recognising the thrust development and the tilted and folded stratigraphy. This has a direct impact on the structural geometry of the Golpu and Wafi deposits and important implications from a resource modelling and mining perspective. Ron is a high end user of Leapfrog Mining and Geo software and competent with Micromine, Surpac and Vulcan. He has considerable experience tying implicit 3D geological model output to both linear and non-linear resource estimation methods.
