Abstract

Biography

Angel Abbud-Madrid is the Director of the Center for Space Resources at the Colorado School of Mines, where he also leads the Space Resources Graduate Program, aimed at educating scientists, engineers, economists, entrepreneurs, and policy makers in the field of extraterrestrial resources. He is currently the President of the Space Resources Roundtable, an international organization focused on multidisciplinary studies of lunar, asteroidal, and planetary resources, and is also a member of the Technical Panel of The Hague International Space Resources Governance Working Group. He has more than 30 years of experience in space projects on NASA’s low-gravity facilities, the Space Shuttle, and the International Space Station and received the NASA Astronauts’ Personal Achievement Award for his contributions to human spaceflight. Dr. Abbud-Madrid holds a B.S.E. in Mechanical and Electrical Engineering from ITESM, México, and Master’s and Ph.D. degrees in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering from Princeton University and the University of Colorado at Boulder.

Liam is a founding director of Solve Geosolutions and CEO of the recent start-up Datarock. A geophysicist and geologist by training, Liam spent most of his twenties exploring for base metals in remote locations in Australia and abroad. He has now turned his attention to applying data science and machine learning to common problems faced in the mining industry.

Biography

Laura Dowling is a Senior Mine Geologist at BHP’s Olympic Dam mine. After graduating from the University of Queensland she started her career with BHP’s metallurgical coal operations before moving to Olympic Dam in 2017, excited by the opportunity of the world-class, complex orebody. Over the past 12 months, Laura has focused on the transformation of the Olympic Dam Mine Geology systems and processes to allow prioritisation of high value-adding geological work. Laura is currently completing a Masters in Economic Geology through the University of Tasmania CODES.

Biography

Jennifer Market is the physicist at MPC Kinetic. Her role involves the development of tooling, software and new applications for data processing and interpretation, along with. She also provides industry training seminars to widen the understanding of acoustic data acquisition and applications. She has 20 years’ experience in both wireline and logging while drilling, working in service companies and as a consultant to develop enhanced tools and applications. She frequently publishes articles for both SPWLA and SPE and was an SPWLA lecturer in 2008-2009, 2011-2012, 2015-2017 as well as a SPE Distinguished lecturer 2014-2015. She served as the 2016-2017 SPWLA VP of Technology and currently serves as the SPWLA VP Finance 2017-2019.

Biography

Chantelle studied a BAppSc Hons (Applied Geology) at UniSA, later commencing a Masters of Economic Geology at the University of Tasmania. She spent her early career working on the Olympic Dam expansion project before moving to their geometallurgy team, developing skills in metallurgy, resource estimation and mineralogy. She commenced work at Cosmo Deeps four years ago, broadening her skills to include mine geology and geotechnical engineering. Chantelle has most recently undertaken the role of Senior Geologist Research and Development for Kirkland Lake’s Northern Territory assets.
