Biography

Lynn has recently moved into the role of Chief Advisor Orebody Knowledge Technical Assurance for Rio Tinto, looking after the group Resource and Reserve reporting. Prior to this Lynn was General Manager – Resource Knowledge & Definition for Rio Tinto; leading a global team providing orebody knowledge expertise for Rio Tinto Exploration. She is a geologist by background with over 25 years’ experience in the mining industry. Prior to Rio Tinto, Lynn worked in operational and consulting roles, most recently as General Manager Operations for Snowden Mining Consultants. Lynn actively advocates for inclusion both within Rio Tinto and across the Resources sector. She is a past Chair of the national AusIMM WIMnet committee and sits on the state WIMWA summit committee. She is a recipient of the 2014 MCA Women in Mining Scholarship for the AICD Company Director’s Course and was awarded a place on the 100 Inspirational Women in Mining list in 2018. Lynn has two daughters and spent several years on their school board as Secretary and Chair.

Biography

Alina Arnold is the Head of Indices at Mysteel Global, China’s largest commodity market intelligence provider. Alina has over a decade of metals & mining experience mainly focussed on iron ore, spanning mining geology, geometallurgy and product quality. Having worked for mining companies in a number of technical roles on remote mine sites in Western Australia for almost 8 years, Alina then joined Mineral Value Services (S&P Global Platts) in the UK, leading a team of global analysts focussed on technical and market analysis as well as managing iron ore Value-in-Use models. Alina is passionate about the iron ore and steel industry and has travelled extensively to conduct primary research on supply and demand dynamics globally. She now leads Mysteel’s expanding index team focussed on supporting the global market in the development, adoption and use of Mysteel’s indices. Alina has a Bachelor of Science in Geology from the University of Liverpool and a Master of Science in Mining Geology from The Camborne School of Mines, UK.

Keynote Presentation 7: Geology Matters

Biography

Daniel Howe has over 17 years of mining experience focused around the eastern goldfields of Western Australia. After completing a Bachelor of Applied Science majoring in Geoscience and Geology at the Queensland University of Technology which included 12 months practical experience with Western Mining Corporation, he moved to Perth to complete his Honours degree at The University of Western Australia. His career began in the Open Pit operations at St Ives in Kambalda, before broadening his skills at the Silver Swan underground nickel mine. Daniel returned to the St Ives Open Pits as the senior geologist and later went on to help start the Athena Underground mine. In 2011, Daniel joined Saracen as the Resource Development Manager and shortly after became the Group Geology Manger – Mining and Resources. He has been in his current role of Chief Geologist for the past five years. He is a member of the AusIMM and the AIG.

Rene is a Chartered Professional and a Fellow with the AusIMM, a Registered Professional Geologist with the AIG, and has published papers and provides training on sampling, QAQC, and resource estimation.

Biography

Steve Sullivan BSc (Hons) - 10 years experience in exploration, open cut and underground mine geology in Australia and Papua New Guinea before joining Maptek in 1995. Steve's career at Maptek has involved extensive travel throughout Australia and in more recent years, the developing markets of Asia (China, India, Japan, Mongolia, Indonesia, Vietnam, Laos) applying Maptek's mine planning solutions. As a resource geologist he has worked across a diverse range of metalliferous and energy commodities applying his expertise in different estimation techniques and methods. Currently Steve is Product Manager for the application of machine learning to geological domain classification and resource estimation.
