Application of process data to identify process improvement opportunities - case study: Antofagasta Mineral S. A.’s Los Pelambres
10:35 AM - 10:50 AMBiography
Mohsen is an Associate Professor at Julius Kruttschnitt Mineral Research Centre (SMI-JKMRC). He joined JKMRC in 2011 after receiving his PhD in IRAN. Mohsen has successfully finished several industrial based projects in Copper, Gold, Iron and Coal processing plants. His area of interest and research is in modelling, control and optimisation of comminution process. In his current role in SMI-JKMRC, he is leading a research program in Advanced Process Prediction and Control, and he is the research leader of AMIRA P9Q project which is the latest in a long line of P9 projects focused on translating the previous P9 research projects to industry process improvement tools.
Benjamin Bonfils
Senior Process Engineer
Hatch
Multicomponent mine-to-mill optimization applied to iron and gold ores
10:50 AM - 11:05 AMBiography
Ben specializes in modelling and optimisation of crushing, grinding and classification technologies. He has seven years’ experience in R&D and consulting, and has conducted multiple site surveys, plant audit, data analysis and troubleshooting, throughput forecast modelling and optimisation projects such as the Mine to Mill and Mine to Process projects in various operations around the world.
Yan Li
Senior Geometallurgist
BHP
Cathy Evans
Senior Research Fellow
Sustainable Minerals Insititue
Back to basics – a practical approach to troubleshooting plant grade/recovery issues in the Mt Isa Copper Concentrator
11:20 AM - 11:35 AMBiography
Cathy is an experienced mineral processing engineer and geometallurgist who has been applying her extensive knowledge of geometallurgy, applied mineralogy, comminution and separation processes in geometallurgical projects and the optimisation of mineral processing operations for over 30 years.
Through her career in industry, consulting and now applied research at the University of Queensland’s Sustainable Minerals Institute, Cathy has worked on a broad range of ore types and commodities including lead, zinc, copper, nickel, gold, silver, platinum minerals and iron ore. Her expert knowledge of how the mineralogy and texture of ores impact their processing behaviours spans the mining process chain from comminution, through separation to tailings disposal and smelting. Cathy enjoys sharing her knowledge with the next generation of metallurgists, including teaching applied mineralogy to undergraduate engineers, supervising postgraduate research students and delivering professional development courses on applied process mineralogy and geometallurgy to industry professionals both in person and online.
