Case Study: Engineer of Record transition process at a complex site
11:00 AM - 11:10 AMBiography
Brad is a Principal Tailings Engineer at WSP in Adelaide. Brad has 15 years of experience working as a consulting engineer for Golder and WSP, and is the regional leader of WSP's Mine Tailings group for South Australia
and Victoria. He has a strong background in geotechnical engineering and design of TSFs with lead engineer and project management roles. Brad is Engineer of Record a two sites with Very High consequence category TSFs.
Mr Martin Rojas
Geotechnical Engineer
Red Earth Engineering
Enhancing Quality Assurance in the Construction of Tailings Storage Facilities through Automated Workflows
11:10 AM - 11:20 AMBiography
Martin joined Red Earth Engineering’s Perth office in early 2024 as a Geotechnical Engineer.
His work in mine waste includes certification of construction of tailings dams, stability analysis, experimental studies on waste dump stability, and support with construction documentation and implementation of guidelines such as GISTM. He previously worked for three years in transport engineering consultancy and, during his master’s studies, researched airblast hazards in underground mining through numerical modelling.
Ms Jodie Kilpatrick
Principal Engineer – Geotechnics and Mine Waste Engineering
SLR Consulting
The role of Critical Controls in Safe Tailings Management
11:20 AM - 11:30 AMBiography
MEng (Civil), GDp (Metallurgy), BSc (Adv)(Hons) Hydrology, CPEng NER IntET (Aus), RPEQ, MAusIMM
Principal Engineer – Geotechnics and Mine Waste Engineering
Jodie demonstrates a record of high achievement within both technical and mining operational environments over her 10 years of experience. Jodie has a strong foundation in tailings and water management, with experience ranging from the direct operation of tailings facilities (and water dams) to the coordination of engineering assessments and dam designs. Jodie has experience in the technical review of dam facilities through dam safety reviews, integrity inspections, and remedial designs.
Jodie has experience with leading a team of tailings and water dam engineers, with a key goal to translate technical information into an operational language (to allow successful implementation of industry best practice for dams). Jodie is proficient in risk management tools, critical controls, and procedures in the context of water and tailings dam infrastructure.
Jodie undertakes a multidisciplinary approach to tailings and dam management, also containing experience in mine water management, including water balance modelling through the use of Goldsim, Flood modelling (TuFLOW), and GIS packages.
