Bioleaching of sulfur enriched discards applied to circular economy

10:40 AM - 10:50 AM

Abstract

Biography

Through pursuing an Environmental Engineer B.Sc., and a Master and Doctoral degrees in Mineral and Environmental Technology, I have developed key expertise in order to minimize impacts and maximize value from urban and industrial wastes and wastewater by applying industrial ecology and circular economy principles from low to high TRL levels. Further, I have previously worked by implementing and monitoring environmental management systems in the metal-mechanic sector where I led several teams responsible for waste and effluent treatment and disposal with a key focus towards developing ‘green’ technologies and preventative approaches to reducing economic liabilities and environmental footprints in an applied perspective. This allowed me the ability to translate these ‘real world’ capabilities into tangible research with end user benefits, upon to academic research. My current philosophy was built under “Zero Waste” framework bases, intended to develop technologies and strategies, focused on decreasing or removal of - at source - risks and costs associated with urban and industrial emissions, including acid rock drainage (ARD) prevention and treatment, and degraded mined lands.

Advanced Seiche Hazard Modeling for In-Pit Tailings Storage Facilities Using FLOW-3D

10:50 AM - 11:00 AM

Abstract

Biography

Adolfo Pedro de Resende is a civil engineer who graduated from the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG) in 2015. He earned his master's degree in water resources from UFMG in 2018, with a focus on dam break studies. Adolfo worked for a water resource consulting company in Brazil until 2024, where he gained extensive experience in hydraulic modelling and water resources management. In May 2024, Adolfo joined WSP Australia, where he continues to apply his expertise in water resources engineering. He is proficient in several advanced modelling tools, including Riverflow2D, FLO-2D, FLOW-3D, HEC-RAS, and TUFLOW. Adolfo's work involves complex simulations and analyses to support the design and assessment of hydraulic structures and flood risk management. Adolfo's contributions to the field are marked by his dedication to improving water resources management through innovative modelling techniques. His work at WSP Australia focuses on enhancing the safety and efficiency of hydraulic infrastructure projects.
