Project Geologist at Rio Tinto Exploration

Graduated of The University of Western Australia with a Bachlor of Science with a Double Major in Geology and Environmental Science. I joined Rio Tinto Yandicoogina Mine Geology in 2018 as a Technical Assistant and stepped into the Mine Geologist role shortly after.

Hawkin Hwang is a Taiwanese Canadian geologist with 7 years’ experience. He is currently a project geologist with Norther Star Resources at the KCGM Mt Charlotte Mine. With a hybrid background in software development and exploration geology, he believes every minute saved on software and process struggles is an extra minute that can be spent looking at more rocks.

Since graduating in 1995 with a BSc(Hons) in Earth Science from JCU, I have worked in exploration, mining, Resource development, Resource estimation, and geological modelling in Australia, Nicaragua, Namibia and PNG. Primarily experienced in copper and gold, but also uranium, base metals, iron ore, and nickel. I have also completed stints as a GIS geologist and a Geological Database Administrator.

Ian is a geologist and the Head of Rio Tinto's Orebody Knowledge Centre of Excellence.
