Speaker
Lynn Olssen
Committee member
Rio Tinto
IMGC 2022 I Welcome to Day 2
8:30 AM - 8:35 AMBiography
Lynn works in the Orebody Knowledge Centre of Excellence at Rio Tinto, looking after the group Resource and Reserve reporting. She is a geologist by background with over 25 years’ experience in operational and consulting roles in the mining industry.
Lynn actively advocates for inclusion both within Rio Tinto and across the Resources sector. She is a past Chair of the national AusIMM WIMnet committee and sits on the state WIMWA summit committee. She is a recipient of the 2014 MCA Women in Mining Scholarship for the AICD Company Director’s Course and was awarded a place on the 100 Inspirational Women in Mining list in 2018. Lynn has two daughters and two dogs and when she’s not working or studying she loves hanging out with her family.
Scott McManus
Lecturer
Charles Sturt University
Keynote 3 I Measuring spatial domain models’ uncertainty for mining industries
8:35 AM - 9:05 AMBiography
Scott has over 25 years’ experience in the exploration and mining industry focusing on data quality, resource estimation, model quality and communicating quality to end users. He is currently researching uncertainty methods with spatial domains and teaching spatial analysis and statistics at Charles Sturt University. He is also involved in Mid North Coast Rugby.
Dr Penny Stewart
Ceo
PETRA Data Science
Keynote 4 I Will “orebody learning” put mine geologists at the centre of the modern mine?
9:05 AM - 9:35 AMBiography
Dr Penny Stewart is a mining engineer and the founder and CEO of PETRA. Penny worked on mine sites for five years before obtaining her Queensland 1st Class Mine Managers’ Certificate of Competency. It was during her time working in the underground and open pit mines of WA that she learnt how geological uncertainty affects our ability to mine to plan. This experience led her to undertake PhD studies at University of Queensland’s JKMRC, where she developed statistical models to predict the mechanical behaviour of rock and was awarded the Ian Morley Prize for this work. In 2015, Penny founded PETRA with the hypothesis that the engineering behaviour of rock throughout a mine is best estimated by feeding back 100s of millions of tonnes of actual mine performance data into engineering models and optimisations. Six years later Petra’s AI powered mining software help mining professionals enhance orebody knowledge and optimise the mine value chain.
Perry Collier
Principal Advisor - Orebody Knowledge Risk and Assurance
Rio Tinto
Quantifying the Value of Drilling using Decoupled Net Present Value Analysis
9:35 AM - 9:55 AMBiography
Perry Collier is a mining and mineral resource geologist with over 30 years multi-commodity experience. Originally from Western Australia, Perry is now based on the Gold Coast, Queensland where he has worked for Rio Tinto Brisbane since 2006. Having recently completed a Master of Science in Mineral Economics, Perry is passionate about maximising resource utilisation and the value of reducing project technical risk, which comes with increased orebody knowledge.
Lee Julian
Principal Engineer
Orica
A novel innovation for grade control
9:55 AM - 10:15 AMBiography
