Biography

Diana has over 25 years experience in the minerals industry. She spent her early career working in Australian mineral processing plant operations, site-based research and metallurgical process design, before moving to the education sector. Diana has now spent 15 years working in metallurgical education and professional development, and has designed and delivered undergraduate and postgraduate education at The University of Queensland, University of New South Wales and the Lassonde Mineral Engineering program at the University of Toronto. She was a part of the team that developed the innovative Mineral Education Partnership (MEP) between the three preeminent Mineral Processing Schools in Australia, and has also been involved in delivering the AngloPlatinum Graduate Development Program (AGDP) run by the University of Cape Town. Diana is working as an independent consultant after a number of year working for JKTech Pty Ltd, the commercialisation arm of The University of Queensland’s Sustainable Minerals Institute. She is currently chair of the AusIMM Metallurgical Society, and is the first female member of the member of the International Mineral Processing Council (IMPC). Diana also chairs the IMPC Education Commission.

Biography

Ms. Getrude Marape is a Principal Engineer with more than thirteen years industry experience in commercial and research projects in the mining industry in South Africa. She graduated with a BEng, BEng (Hons) and Masters degree in Metallurgical Engineering at the University of Pretoria. Her experience includes, but is not limited to, process flowsheet development and optimization of various commodities such as iron ore, platinum group metals (PGMs), base metals, beach sands, graphite, phosphate ore, ilmenite, chromite and metal from slag.

Biography

Dr Liming Lu is a Senior Principal Scientist at CSIRO and has more than 30 years research experience in the characterisation, processing and evaluation of iron ores, metallurgical coals and metals. Liming received the Josef S Kapitan Award from Association of Iron and Steel Technology, USA in 2003 and Sawamura Award from the Iron and Steel Institute of Japan in 2018. He is the editor of the book entitled “Iron ore – mineralogy, processing and environmental sustainability” and has published more than 10 book chapters and 150 papers. Liming is a member of review board of Metallurgical and Materials Transactions A and Minerals, member of Editorial Board for Ironmaking and Steelmaking, member of advisory board for ISIJ International.

Biography

Feng Zhang is a PhD student in the School of Minerals and Energy Resources Engineering at University of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia. After completing his bachelor’s degree in mining engineering, Feng completed a master by research degree in mineral processing which was focused on the thermoplastic behaviour of flotation products of metallurgical coals. His current research interests include mineral flotation, process water chemistry, dewatering, and coal thermoplastic transformation.

Mitigating disputes in mineral processing contracts

Biography

Bruce has worked in the mineral processing industry for 38 years since his graduation from the University of Queensland in Metallurgical Engineering. Through the course of his working career, he has acquired a PhD in Chemical Engineering and a Diploma in Law. He is also an accredited mediator. Bruce has witnessed a wide range of disputes relating to procurement and operation of processing infrastructure and equipment, and he offers his experience to assist others to prevent disputes to the extent possible, while also providing practical advice as to how to minimise the impacts of disputes when they do arise.
