Biography

Sandy Gray, co-founder and Technical Director of Gekko Systems, is a globally recognized inventor and innovator.  He is a recipient of the prestigious Clunies Ross Award , Australia’s pre-eminent award for scientists, technologists and innovators and the UK’s I0M3 Futers Gold Medal. Sandy has also received the AusIMM Mineral Operating Technique Award, the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award (Technology, Communications, E-commerce & Life Sciences – Southern Region), the Victorian Premier’s Design Award and is an inductee of the International Mining Hall of Fame. Sandy is a world leader in gravity gold and leaching flowsheet design, pre-concentration, polymetallic, materials handling and effective plant design. He invented Gekko’s patented systems including the InLine Pressure Jig, InLine Leach Reactor, G-Rex Resin Exchange and the Python Processing Plant. His inventions are breakthroughs in the field of mineral processing with over 600 installations at mines in 43 different countries over the last twenty-five years.

Biography

Callan Lowes is a research associate in the ARC Centre of Excellence for Enabling Eco-Efficient Beneficiation of Minerals. Since finishing his PhD in 2020, Callan has been working closely with industry partners across a range of commodities to look for opportunities to implement novel technologies and develop strategies for improving mineral processing efficiency.

Biography

Since joining CiDRA in 1997, John Viega has served in several senior operational roles with CiDRA as Vice President. During this period, John has led talented teams of professionals, successfully commercializing innovative technology solutions in the Northern Alberta’s mineable oil sands, hard rock mining and other industries. John’s mission has been to build long lasting, trusted partnerships with many of the largest companies in the world. CiDRA listens to its customers’ unserved and underserved needs and develops innovative process technologies that deliver step change improvements to throughput, recover and operating efficiency. Prior to join CiDRA, John held leadership positions in finance and operations with global high-tech companies that provided game changing, high-end automation to various industries that increased productivity and operating efficiency. John received a B.A. degree in Economics from the University of Connecticut, an MBA from the University of Hartford and completed extensive course work in the International Management program at Rensselaer University.

Biography

Dr. Narasimha Mangadoddy is Associate Professor in the department of Chemical Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad, India. He received Ph.D. from SMI-JKMRC, University of Queensland (Australia) in 2010. Before joining IIT he worked at R&D-TATA Steel India, JKMRC-Australia on various mineral processing projects. Dr. Narasimha’s areas of interest include Computational modelling such as CFD, DEM, CFD-DEM coupling for multi-phase flows, particulate technology, mineral processing, slurry rheology, transport processes of separation devices. He has three granted & 7 filed patents, total of 40 journal 34 referred conference publications. He is the recipient of 2010 & 2016 Indian Institute of Mineral Engineers (IIME}’s KHARE best paper award and excellence in teaching award in 2012 & 2016 by IIT Hyderabad. Currently he is the International Advisory Committee member represents India at IMPC.

Biography

Difan Tang received his B.Eng. and M.Sc. degrees both in Mechanical Engineering and was an engineer with expertise in mechanical design. He received the Ph.D. degree in Mechatronics from the University of Adelaide, Australia, in 2019, and joined the Institute for Sustainability, Energy and Resources (ISER), Integrated Mining Consortium, Australia, as a research associate since then. As a researcher and an engineer, he specialises in mechatronic/systems engineering and is pursuing his research interests in emerging mechatronic systems for the mining industry.
