Biography

Steve Sullivan BSc (Hons) - 10 years experience in exploration, open cut and underground mine geology in Australia and Papua New Guinea before joining Maptek in 1995. Steve's career at Maptek has involved extensive travel throughout Australia and in more recent years, the developing markets of Asia (China, India, Japan, Mongolia, Indonesia, Vietnam, Laos) applying Maptek's mine planning solutions. As a resource geologist he has worked across a diverse range of metalliferous and energy commodities applying his expertise in different estimation techniques and methods. Currently Steve is Product Manager for the application of machine learning to geological domain classification and resource estimation.

A novel physics-AI based hybrid digital twin for enhanced gold recovery

Biography

Satyan is a Physicist with deep understanding and knowledge of natural phenomenon and applied processes. He received his Doctorate from University of Colorado, USA in the area of Theoretical and Statistical Physics. With a strong fundamental background, he brings in over 15+ years experience in modeling and solving complex mathematical problems and industrial processes. He has authored several highly cited publications in top international journals and is a co-inventor of 30+ industrial patents. In his role as a Chief Data Scientist, Satyan has advised and mentored teams of Ph.D. level scientists providing data driven solutions to Oil and Gas, Energy, Power and Mining industries. As a Scientific Advisor at Halliburton, he pioneered the development of novel techniques of data acquisition and data driven technologies considered disruptive in the industry. Satyan’s work at Barrick Gold Corporation, while bringing a paradigm change in the application of Data Science to processing industries in general, has shown to provide direct impact on improving Gold recovery by significant amounts while simultaneously reducing environmental footprint. He is currently Chief Analytics Advisor at 654 Research, focused on the digital transformation of mining and renewables industries with emphasis on sustainability and reducing environmental impact.

F. Al-Zubaidi is a Ph.D. candidate in Minerals and Energy Resources Engineering at the University of New South Wales, Australia. She was awarded an M.Sc. in Petroleum Engineering from the same institution. She holds an Australian Government Research Training Program Scholarship. Her major research interest is rock typing using machine learning.

Biography

Scott is a geoscientist interested in data, data quality and preserving data quality. He has been involved with information geoscience, quality control, resource estimation, and spatial domain interpretation for 25+ years in the mining industry. He has qualifications in Geology, Systems Analysis & Design, Archaeology and Statistics as well as being an RPGEO (Mining and Information Geoscience) and member of the AIG. Currently he is researching methods of assessing uncertainty in spatial domains with the school of environmental science at Charles Sturt University. He resides on the Mid North Coast of NSW and enjoys long walks along the beach.
