Peter Waggitt FAusIMM(CP) IEng, MIAgrE CEnv Over 45 years of professional experience as an environmental scientist / engineer dealing with issues of environmental protection, the past 25 years or so with uranium mining; 16 plus years at the Commonwealth Office of the Supervising Scientist; seven years in Vienna with the IAEA. Since June 2011 with the Department of Primary Industry and Resources in Darwin as Director of Mining Compliance then Director of Uranium Mine closure since 2017 working with stakeholders on the closure of Ranger Uranium Mine. Founder member of the Executive Committee of UMREG. Peter retired in May 2019.

Geophysical and geochemical methods applied to uranium exploration in Argentina: a case study.

Biography

I graduated with a BSc in Geology from National University of Salta - Argentina in 2010. Since 2011, I have been working at the National Atomic Energy Commission (CNEA) as an exploration geologist. Responsibilities include interpreting and integrating geophysical data with geologic data to determine the subsurface structure and stratigraphy to locate uranium deposits. I have participated in various IAEA activities such as fellowships, training courses, workshops, technical meetings and consultancies carried out in France, Austria and Argentina.

Biography

PhD in geochemistry from Nancy University (1981). During the last 46 years, I have been mainly involved in the research and education on uranium geochemistry and ore deposit genesis. I have been also involved in the research on high-level radioactive waste disposal in granites. I have visited and worked on most of the major uranium deposits types in close relation with mining companies. 260 published scienific papers. IAEA Consultant. 2010 : SEG Thayer Lindsley Lecturer - 2010 : SEG Fellow - 2013 : Prix Barbier Société Géologique France - 2013 : SGA-NEWMONT Gold Medal - 2018 IAGOD Kutina-Smirnoff medal.

Biography

Matt was awarded a BSc(hons) from Adelaide University and a PhD in structural and metamorphic geology from JCU. He worked for 8 years as part of AREVA’s Australian, and Global Project Generation Teams and now works as an independent consultant. He has contributed to uranium and gold projects in Australia, North America, Europe and Asia, running field programs, developing exploration targeting models and training specialists in the use of advanced investigative methodologies. Matt has recently completed several projects with the United Nation’s International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) including an ambitious, continent-scale mineral prospectivity model for sandstone-hosted uranium.

Abstract

Biography

Xavier is the General Manager of Geology and Exploration at Vimy Resources, since 2010. In that period, he was key to large resource definition, baseline studies, metallurgical test work and permitting programs at the Mulga Rock Project (WA). More recently, he has been instrumental in securing the Alligator River Project during Cameco’s recent divestment process and ensuring a successful first year of operation on that project. Xavier has over 20 years’ experience in exploration and project development, including more than 15 years in uranium, and holds an Honours degree in Geology.
