Theresa Nguyen is a specialist metallurgist at Rio Tinto Iron Ore. She has 8 years working experience in Iron Ore, and with exposure in operational and technical roles. Her current role in the Geometallurgy team, focuses on creating and maintaining long term product predictions for all the deposits in the Pilbara as well as supporting various projects to provide geometallurgical solutions for site. She holds a degree of Chemical Engineering from Curtin University, Western Australia.

Huibin Li obtained his PhD degree in metallurgy from the University of Wollongong in 2018 and continued working at UOW as an Associate Research Fellow. He specialised in iron ore’s high-temperature performance, mineral phase’s evolution at high temperatures, solid waste recycling and utilization. He finished two projects in the last four years: 1. Sinter of different ferrous ores; 2. Zinc removal of BOS filter cake by sintering.

Joffre Buswell has 18 years of experience working in iron ore mining operations and resource development projects across the Pilbara and overseas. For the last 5 years Joffre has been employed at Roy Hill Iron Ore initially in the Mine Geology and Geotechnical department then being employed in a project capacity concentrating on material type, grade studies, geometallurgical projects and Hydrogeology. Prior to this, he spent some time working for a software company specialising in mining geology and reconciliation systems. The bulk of Joffre’s iron ore experience was gained over 13 years employment with Rio Tinto both in the Pilbara and overseas concentrating in Mine Geology, materials characterisation and mining systems.

Bertus Smith is an Associate Professor in the Department of Geology at the University of Johannesburg (UJ), where he has been working since 2008. He is also affiliated with the DST-NRF Centre of Excellence for Integrated Mineral and Energy Resource Analysis and the PPM Research Group at UJ. His main research interests include iron and manganese formations and their associated ores as well as process mineralogy.

John Carter is Global Technical Manager for Bureau Veritas Minerals. John holds a Diploma of Business, a Bachelor of Engineering Degree, and a PhD in Applied Physics. Over the last 25 years, he has held various research, operations, and laboratory management roles in advanced ceramics, chemicals manufacturing and in testing and analysis for the mining and minerals sectors. John joined Bureau Veritas in 2008 as Operations Manager of the Ultra Trace geochemical laboratory in Perth, WA. He now provides technical support across the Bureau Veritas global minerals network in addition to driving innovation and technology for new services. John is a leader of Bureau Veritas’ capabilities in spectral analysis, machine learning and data analytics.
