Biography
Dean has 38 years’ experience in mineral processing research, operations, reviewing, management and consulting. Dean has worked in engineering since 2003 and has filled the role of Technical Director–Process for the past 10 years. While working for the one team the company morphed around him from MinProc to AMEC to AMEC Foster Wheeler and now Wood. Prior to his engineering life, Dean worked in operations for 14 years with CRA (now Rio Tinto) in base metals, mineral sands and diamonds and for 8 years as part of the JKTech team (UQ). Dean’s expertise includes comminution, classification, geometallurgy, scrubbing, laterite beneficiation, mine to mill optimisation, dense media separation, flotation, plant modelling, process review, ore characterisation interpretation, sampling, plant surveys, testing program design and management of technical teams. He has worked with clients operating in numerous countries across a broad spectrum of mineral products including gold, copper, iron ore, nickel, uranium, mineral sands, diamonds, lead, zinc, silver, platinum and phosphate. Dean is a member of MetSoc and has convened Mill Operators’ Conferences and has recently Joined the JORC committee as AusIMM’s and MetSoc’s mineral processing representative.
