Biography

Timo Haakana (Technology Manager, Gold Hydrometallurgy) is a chemical engineer with over 15 years of experience in the field of hydrometallurgy. He has held various technical and management positions in research and development, engineering, commissioning and technology management. During the last eight years his focus has been in gold hydrometallurgy, especially in pressure oxidation and pressure leaching.

Biography

Richmond K. Asamoah obtained his BSc (Mineral Engineering) and PhD (Minerals and Resources) degrees from the University of Mines and Technology (UMaT), and the University of South Australia (UniSA), respectively. He previously worked as a teaching assistant in UMaT, and as a research associate in Process Innovations, Ghana. Richmond has developed profound experience in mineral processing and extractive metallurgy in tandem with colloid and interfacial science. He is currently a senior technical officer in the Future Industries Institute of the University of South Australia, providing edge cutting and specialised technical support to researchers and industry partners.

Experienced and resourceful extractive Metallurgical Engineer, with 25 years experience both in academia and production. Currently provides metallurgical support to operations and projects, in the Kibali Processing Plant that has a unique gold processing circuit with both generic free milling ores treatment and a suite of more complex sulphide ores that retain a degree of refractoriness. Provides cross functional and discipline interface with minerals resources, long term mine planing and process to enhance resource and reserve value add of ore bodies Has held, in acting capacity, positions of General Manager and Process Manager at Kibali Gold Mine

Novel biooxidation process for low grade refractory sulfidic ores

Abstract

Biography

Jaeheon Lee is an associate professor in the department of Mining and Geological Engineering. He obtained his BS and MS in Metallurgical Engineering from Korea University in Seoul, Korea. He earns his Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering at the University of Arizona in 2003. He has worked as a metallurgical engineer for Newmont Mining and Barrick Gold on various new projects, corporate R&D, and operating support. He came back to Academia in 2014 and his research interests are ore characterization, hydrometallurgical processes of gold and copper, rare earth elements, biohydrometallurgy of refractory sulfide ores and novel sulfide oxidation processes, recycling metals from urban resources, mine water treatment, repurposing mine tailing, and biological de-watering of tailing ponds. He teaches Hydrometallurgy and Biotechnology & Extractive Metallurgy.
