Abstract

Biography

Jaeheon Lee is an associate professor in the department of Mining and Geological Engineering. He obtained his BS and MS in Metallurgical Engineering from Korea University in Seoul, Korea. He earns his Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering at the University of Arizona in 2003. He has worked as a metallurgical engineer for Newmont Mining and Barrick Gold on various new projects, corporate R&D, and operating support. He came back to Academia in 2014 and his research interests are ore characterization, hydrometallurgical processes of gold and copper, rare earth elements, biohydrometallurgy of refractory sulfide ores and novel sulfide oxidation processes, recycling metals from urban resources, mine water treatment, repurposing mine tailing, and biological de-watering of tailing ponds. He teaches Hydrometallurgy and Biotechnology & Extractive Metallurgy.

Teresa earned a MS in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering from Montana Tech and a PhD from Curtin University in Australia. She now leads the Technology Transfer and Gangue Rejection themes of the AMIRA P420 Gold Processing Technology Project, the world’s largest and longest running collaborative research project in gold processing.

Emerging technologies in cyanidation of gold and silver: a glance at some of the latest contributions

Abstract

Biography

Guy Deschênes currently hold the position of principal engineer, processing of precious metals, at BBA, with 32 years of experience mineral processing of precious metals and 3 years of experience as plant metallurgist (copper and gold). He completed a bachelor degree in metallurgical engineering (B.Sc.), a master degree in electrometallurgy (M.Sc.) and a Ph.D. in hydrometallurgy of gold, all at Laval University. Prior to BBA, he worked for CANMET Mining, Kalgoorlie Consolidated Gold Mines and Noranda Mines. He works the design of cyanidation circuits on various steps of engineering studies, plant audits and optimisation of cyanidation plants. He is the authors of 95 publications and 155 companies’ reports. He is an active reviewer for Minerals Engineering, Hydrometallurgy and Minerals and Metallurgical Processing Journals. He is a member of CIM, Professional Engineers of Ontario and Ordre des Ingénieurs du Québec.

Biography

Naim is a Chartered Professional Engineer with over 14 years’ engineering and project experience in mining, mineral processing, and construction. Naim has broad experience in design, feasibility studies, project management, and construction management; that experience has been gained in Australia, Asia, Africa, and Europe, on processing plants and infrastructure projects involving gold, base metals and magnetite. Naim has held project management, client representative and superintendent roles covering multi-discipline teams and has a sound understanding of the critical nature of engineering and construction in greenfield and brownfield environments. Naim also has an excellent track record of completing projects on time and budget to the satisfaction of project stakeholders at all levels.
