Future skills and resilient operations Workshop
2:00 PM - 3:30 PMAbout
Mining operations are becoming increasingly connected through automation, data and digital technologies. As these tools become embedded across the resources sector, operations, maintenance and technical services roles are evolving alongside them.
This workshop explores how technology is changing the way work is planned, coordinated and delivered across modern mining operations to empower decision making. It highlights the importance of data in supporting proactive operations and predictive maintenance.
As technology-enabled operations continue to evolve, the session will explore modern ways of working and technical capability needed to shape the future of the resources sector.

Biography
Sean joined Thiess to help build Olive Downs Complex, where autonomous drills and trucks are now part of daily operations.
Sean is a mechanical engineer with a background in technology and management consulting. This has allowed him to work most business units. Each one has a different set of problems and opportunities when new tech is implemented but the two questions remain common across all teams:
• How do we need to adapt to new ways of working?
• What opportunities does technology open up in the workflows we already have?
He is passionate about helping teams work through these questions. Currently his focus is creating value in control rooms across the East Coast by making sure processes, data and technology are fit for purpose.
Sean is building on his skillset as an engineer by completing UQ’s new Graduate Diploma in Resources Development for more commercial and technical understanding of the core business.
