From strategy to scale: Why critical minerals innovation stalls between pilot and bankability

Donna Kitsos operates at the intersection of mining, innovation, and early-stage investment, with a focus on accelerating the deployment of technologies across the mining value chain. She is Program Director at Prospect Innovation, a Singapore-based early-stage investment and ecosystem platform backed by a diversified family group with operating roots in mining and metals.
Donna has led and contributed to global innovation and public–private collaboration initiatives, including the World Economic Forum’s Sustainable Mining Challenge, working closely with industry, government, and technology founders to advance early-stage solutions across critical minerals, processing, and circularity. Her experience spans early-stage investment, technology diligence, and partnership development across exploration, refining, recycling, and adjacent industrial technologies, with particular emphasis on first-of-kind and hard-to-scale innovations.
She brings a commercial background in energy and commodities markets and remains actively engaged in shaping cross-sector dialogue on critical minerals, supply chains, and pathways from pilot validation to bankable deployment.

Midstream in Australia: Ambition vs reality - Confronting the structural constraints

Namali Mackay is Managing Director of the Critical Minerals Association Australia (CMAA), where she works at the intersection of geopolitics, trade, and supply chains to strengthen Australia’s role in global critical minerals markets. CMAA is part of an international network spanning the United Kingdom, United States, and Canada, and plays an independent, industry-connected role in shaping policy, guiding investment, and building collaboration across allied economies.
Namali leads CMAA’s national and international engagement, working with government, industry, and global partners to advance resilient and diversified supply chains for critical minerals.
Previously, she led the critical minerals agenda for the Australian Trade and Investment Commission in London, where she worked with UK and Australian stakeholders on behalf of the Australian Government to drive strategic collaboration across the sector.
A former Australian diplomat and trade negotiator, Namali served at the Australian High Commission London, covering trade, industry, resources, and climate portfolios. She later joined Prudential plc as Group Head of International Relations, leading the company’s trade and international strategy across ASEAN.
Following Brexit, Namali was Trade Advisor to Make UK, where she supported British manufacturers in navigating post-Brexit trade and supply chain challenges.

Dorothea Ramizo is a PhD Candidate at Curtin University and an Erasmus Mundus scholar with an LL.M. and an MA in Economics. Her research analyses the structural barriers to midstream processing of critical minerals and the dynamics of global clean energy supply chains. She has authored multiple peer-reviewed publications on trade policy, environmental economics, and econometrics.

Dr. Mark Breitfuss brings more than 30 years of experience in environmental consulting and research within the mining and natural resources sector. His expertise includes environmental impact assessment, social and community engagement, water policy, mine remediation and closure planning, infrastructure and energy planning and expert witness support.
Mark is a qualified ecologist and Impact Assessment specialist, working closely with all levels of government and industry to ensure the successful implementation of development approvals, State and Commonwealth Environmental Impact Statements, EPBC Act approvals, business cases, community and stakeholder consultation strategies and governance frameworks across Australia. Mark has a proven track record in government liaison, negotiation, strategy development and implementation, strategic project approvals processes and executive engagement – building a solid professional reputation in the environmental consulting market and across multiple sectors. He holds a Ph.D in Environmental Science from Griffith University.
