Dimitar Kaykov is a PhD researcher in Mining Engineering at McGill University and a former Teaching Assistant at Bulgaria’s University of Mining and Geology. His work bridges traditional mining engineering and data science through machine learning, operations research and reliability modelling. His current research integrates equipment reliability, maintenance and replacement decisions into mine planning, accounting for their effects on fleet performance and project economics. His broader experience includes mine planning and design, blast design and grade control. He aims to develop interpretable models and practical decision tools that support efficient, reliable and economically feasible mining operations across diverse mining environments.
