Biography

Junlin is a PhD student in Mining Engineering at the Adelaide University. His research focuses on integrating real-time ore tracking with dynamic production scheduling optimisation in mining operations, with a strong emphasis on optimising the entire mining value chain. This innovative research is part of the ARC Training Centre for Integrated Operations for Complex Resources. Junlin has two years of practical experience as a mining engineer at a dolomite open-pit mine, where he worked on optimising mining operations and production parameter design. This hands-on experience deepened his understanding of mine planning and operational efficiency. During his Master's studies, Junlin specialised in mine planning and parameter optimisation, further honing his expertise in production strategies and technological solutions for mining challenges. Outside of research, Junlin enjoys basketball, cycling, swimming, and music.

Biography

A geologist with bachelors degree from the University of Adelaide and 17 years experience in industry. This experience has included working at Broken Hill in early career and then moving to IOCG deposits at Prominent Hill and Carrapateena for the last 14 years. He has exposure to a range of mining techniques including open pit, long hole open stoping, sub level caving and block caving.

Biography

Dr. Angelina Anani is an associate professor in the School of Mining Engineering and Mineral Resources at the University of Arizona. She earned both her B.S. (Summa Cum Laude) and Ph.D. in Mining Engineering from the Missouri University of Science and Technology. With over a decade of research and teaching experience, Dr. Anani specializes in mine planning, mine safety, and the modeling and optimization of mining systems, focusing on sustainability and efficiency. Dr. Anani is the recipient of the 2022 Freeport-McMoRan Inc. Academic Career Development Grant from the Society for Mining, Metallurgy & Exploration (SME) and the prestigious 2023 Outstanding Young Professional Award from the Mining and Exploration Division of SME. Dr Anani serves on the APCOM International Council, the SOMP capacity building committee, MMEX Editorial Board, and the Tennessee State University Mining Academia/Industry Advisory Board.

Integration of machine learning and mixed-integer programming in underground mine planning

Biography

Prosper Chimunhu is a Perth-based mining engineer specialising in medium to long-term underground mine planning and production scheduling. He holds a PhD in Mining and Metallurgical Engineering from Curtin University and currently serves as a sessional academic at the Western Australian School of Mines (WASM), Curtin University. Since 2004, Prosper has held operational and technical roles spanning drill and blast, production engineering, mine planning, and management across operations in Zimbabwe and Australia. His research integrates machine learning with mathematical optimisation - particularly mixed-integer programming frameworks - to enhance input parameter estimation, scheduling robustness, and strategic decision-making in underground mining operations.
