Patrick Enright is a mining operations leader with over a decade of international experience across safety, operations, and technical disciplines. He holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Mining from UNSW, a Master’s in Professional Accounting and International Finance from Deakin University, and is a Chartered Professional in Mining Engineering (AusIMM). Patrick also possesses statutory tickets as a First Class Mine Manager and Site Senior Executive in both Western Australia and New Zealand. Patrick has a proven track record of driving continuous improvement, fostering team empowerment, and deploying technology to enhance safety, productivity, and cost efficiency. His leadership style is defined by transparent communication, disciplined execution, and strategic alignment, while maintaining strong relationships with regulators, communities, and stakeholders. He is currently the General Manager of the Snowy River Mine in New Zealand and has held senior roles including Senior Site Superintendent at Byrnecut Mining, and Mine Development Superintendent at BHP. Notable achievements include revitalising safety systems, reducing costs, boosting productivity, and leading projects to completion ahead of schedule and under budget. Patrick’s expertise in operational maturity, workforce recruitment, and emergency response has enabled sustainable improvements across diverse mining operations.

Christina Folley is a distinguished mining safety executive with more than 20 years’ leadership experience across the resources sector. She is recognised for deep expertise in critical risk management, organisational leadership, psychological safety, and large-scale cultural transformation. Christina currently serves as Manager Group Safety for First Quantum Minerals, where she provides strategic direction on high-risk activities including critical control verification, safety risk registers, contractor safety management, and the development of mentally healthy, high-performing workplaces. She leads several of the organisation’s most significant multi-year safety initiatives, focusing on leadership alignment, globally consistent standards, mature critical control practices, and fair and just culture across a diverse international portfolio.

Sean Lavin is a passionate collaborator, facilitator, and lifelong advocate for the mining industry and the people who power it. Having spent six years working in an open-cut coal mine in Central Queensland as both an operator and site safety and health representative (SSHR), Sean understands what it’s like at the coal face—both literally and figuratively. During his time on site, Sean obtained his Masters in Management (Human Resources) with Distinction and later transitioned from site into the global head office to commence a graduate program. It's during this time that he found his passion for learning and organisational development, working with teams across 5 continents. This local and global experience fuels his passion for supporting frontline teams and leaders across the mining industry to develop the skills and confidence they need to work safely, look after each other and lead effectively, everyday. Sean also hosted a podcast name 'Beneath the Surface' - a podcast created to capture the stories of the people who make up the global mining and related industries. Through Everyday Massive, Sean partners with mining organisations to improve safety and wellbeing, delivering change where it matters most.

Hendrik Lourens is a researcher and practitioner working at the intersection of production-system design, operational stability and mine safety. His central thesis is that the decade-long plateau in Australian mining fatalities is a predictable consequence of balanced-capacity production systems—and that flow-based operational redesign can restore the conditions on which sustained safety improvement depends. He is the author of Breaching the Mining Fatalities Plateau (Journal of Industrial Safety, 2026). At this conference, he presents the companion paper The Compliance Paradox, which applies this thesis to Queensland’s Resources Safety and Health Legislation Amendment Act 2024. He is also co-author, with Kelvin Genn of Art of Work, of Beyond Green Ticks, which introduces the Control Effectiveness Assessment methodology for evaluating whether critical controls work in practice. Hendrik is a Fellow of AusIMM and serves on the AusIMM Health and Safety Society Committee. He holds an MBA with Distinction from Heriot-Watt University, an MSc in Polymer Science from Stellenbosch University, a Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety, and international Theory of Constraints certification from TOCICO. As CEO of Stratflow Australia and a senior consultant at Art of Work, Hendrik has spent 12 years applying flow-based methods to safety and operational transformation in underground and open-cut mines across coal, metals and industrial minerals. His work builds on the Flow Room methodology developed by the late Arrie van Niekerk and proven through more than 90 operational interventions.

Peter Wilkinson has extensive experience in managing and regulating high hazard industries especially in mining and oil and gas. He worked as a regulator in the UK Health and Safety Executive (HSE) and for the last 4 years of his HSE career, on loan to the Australian Government as project leader developing and commissioning the national offshore safety regulator (now called NOPSEMA). He has held leadership team roles in Australian listed petroleum companies and consulted widely in the mining industry especially at senior executive and Board level. He was a member of the 2005 WA ministerial review of BHP Billiton mining incidents, the review of NSW mining safety chaired by former premier Neville Wran in 2005 and has worked in similar roles for the Queensland government. He supported the Australian Government in the aftermath of the Montara well blowout in 2009 and the US Government on the Macondo/Deepwater Horizon disaster in 2010. He was the technical editor of the ICMM guidance on critical controls published in 2025 and supported ICMM in the revised guidance published earlier this year.
