Dr Greg You
Senior Lecturer
Federation University Australia
Structurally Controlled Slope Stability Study Using Genetic Algorithm
10:50 AM - 11:10 AMBiography
Dr Greg You is a Senior Lecturer in mining engineering at Federation University and a Stream Leader on Stable Landforms and Mine Rehabilitation research. He specializes in geotechnical and geoenvironmental effects of mining, groundwater extraction, and landfill operations and mine planning, design and optimization. He published a book - Mining Project Value Optimization with Springer in 2024, co-authored two Chinese geomebrane standards for landfills (2006, 2008), and completed a CRC TiME project as a chief investigator in 2022, which is on mine closure planning optimization integrating open pit, waste dump and tailing dam. He supervised five PhD students to completion. He is adept at collaborating with interdisciplinary teams and delivering high impact outcomes to increase safety and productivity. He has published 82 research papers.
Before joining Federation University Australia in 2006, Greg was the founding Technical Manager of the Asia/Pacific Region at GSE Lining Technology Co. Ltd. He established the technical department to support geosynthetics application in containment projects, leading to the production expansion, advancing geomembrane standards for landfills in China, and effective stakeholder education and relationship-building through over 60 technical presentations to engage consultants, regulatory bodies, and industry partners across the Asia/Pacific region.
