Andrew has a B.App Sci and 18 years of experience in fixed plant operations and commissioning in Australia and Papua New Guinea across a variety of commodities including Nickel/Cobalt, Lead/Zinc, and Gold. In his role at Scantech he managers the global marketing and projects for online analysis in the Cement, Coal, Minerals, Recycling and Steel industries.

Biography

Dr George Wren is a Senior Metallurgist at Talison Lithium where he provides technical support to the Project Development and Operational Teams. He holds a PhD in Chemical and Metallurgical Engineering and has worked in operational and project roles for various commodities including lithium, mineral sands, rare earths, nickel, gold and copper. Highlights include providing technical support to the Talison team, contributing to technical development of oxide flotation systems at Iluka and supporting the operational team at Boddington Gold Mine to troubleshoot production issues and improve plant performance. Outside of work, George enjoys spending time with his family, fitting in trips to the beach, river and forests near their home in Karridale, South West WA. George has held various voluntary roles including being an active member of AusIMM COIs and past Vice-Chair of the AusIMM South West WA Branch.

Masoud Samaei is a PhD candidate at the WA School of Mines, Curtin University, specialising in mining and geotechnical engineering. His research focuses on advancing automation and applying artificial intelligence (AI) to solve complex challenges in the mining and geotechnical fields. As an active researcher, Masoud has authored over 10 papers with more than 140 citations, reflecting his engagement in the academic and professional mining community. His work explores the integration of AI-driven technologies to improve operational efficiency, safety, and sustainability in mining practices. Masoud is passionate about leveraging emerging technologies to transform the mining industry. By focusing on automation and innovative AI solutions, he aims to optimise mining operations and geotechnical processes, contributing to the development of smarter, more sustainable practices. Through his research, Masoud envisions a future where advanced technologies and automation play a central role in addressing the challenges of modern mining, driving the industry towards greater efficiency and sustainability.

Alan Varghese is an accomplished mechanical engineer currently undertaking a Ph.D. in Digitalisation of Centrifugal Slurry Pumps at the University of Western Australia. Simultaneously, he serves as the Product Head – Pumps Digital at Metso. With a Master of Business Administration, Alan specialises in slurry pumps and their aftermarket applications, particularly within the metals and mineral processing industries. His diverse expertise combines technical proficiency with strategic management in the field.
