I am the Technical Services Manager of the Maptek Mine Management Platform based in Newcastle NSW. I qualified as an Electronic Engineer at the University of Pretoria. As an Engineer, I pride myself in participating in and leading teams to deliver solutions that make a difference in the world. My chosen niche is production execution management and trackless mobile equipment proximity awareness systems, especially in the challenging underground hard rock environment. I have spent more than two decades scoping, building, deploying, and supporting complex production execution management systems within this environment. During this time many things have changed but the operational and technical challenges are as exciting as the day I first began.

Nurassyl Battalgazy is a Geoscience Data Analyst at IMDEX, where he contributes to the BLASTDOG project, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to deliver data-driven solutions and focusing on real-time data integration in mining operations. With a PhD from The University of Queensland, conducted at the W.H. Bryan Mining and Geology Research Centre, his research explored the potential of deep learning for resource estimation, contributing to a new class of AI-driven tools. Nurassyl also earned a Master of Science in Mining Engineering from Nazarbayev University in Kazakhstan. Nurassyl’s cross-disciplinary expertise spans resource estimation, data science, and AI applications in both production and exploration. His academic and professional contributions include published papers in esteemed journals and conference presentations on AI in mineral resource sector.
