Biography

Cam Stevens is a chartered health and safety professional and technologist specialising in the intersection of health, safety and technology. As the founder of Pocketknife Group, a safety innovation and work design consultancy, Cam advises high-risk industries across mining, energy, infrastructure and construction on how to responsibly integrate emerging technologies including AI, computer vision and wearable tech into safety-critical systems. Cam combines deep field insight with a human-centered, innovation-first approach to improve the design and experience of work. In addition to his speaking and consulting work, Cam is the Safety Lead at the Australian Automation and Robotics Precinct where he puts theory to practice, supporting pioneering organisations to test and deploy the cutting-edge automation, robotics and new energy technologies.

Biography

Michelle has over 25 years of mining industry experience and 4 years in the space industry. She is now the Director of Mining and Space, leading the Resources Working group for IAC 2025 and was formerly at AROSE where she was the program director of Australia's first lunar rover, led mining missions to NASA and delivered the Space STEM program. Prior to this, she was the Program Director Technology Development, and leader of the Next Generation Mine Innovation Program, at South 32. At South 32 she was responsible for leading the identification, design and delivery of new technology and innovation for all greenfield projects as well as translation into brownfield operations. With a non-traditional technology background, Michelle brought her strategic and mining experience to deliver programs, and help drive the future competitiveness of the company. Michelle graduated with a Bachelor of Engineering in Mining (Hons) and a Master of Science (Mineral Economics) from Curtin University. In 2023, Michelle was awarded the Space Professional of the Year at the Australian Space Industry Awards, recognising her work connecting the resources and space industries together in Australia and with the US. And in 2024, Michelle was included in the top 100 Global Inspirational Women in Mining.

Biography

Ralph Smith began his career in the mining sector, initially in geospatial engineering before transitioning into mining engineering. He is passionate about business transformation and the value it brings in solving industry challenges. While the industry focuses on change, Ralph has been driving transformation for over 25 years. Throughout his career, he has contributed to a wide range of projects—from 100kt to 30Mt production targets—across commodities such as gold, copper, lead, zinc, silver, uranium, nickel, iron ore, talc, rare earths, and mineral sands, globally. Recognizing Dassault Systèmes as a leader in delivering business transformation across industries, Ralph joined the company to lead mining and infrastructure services globally, with a focus on delivering value and enabling positive change.

Biography

Dr Penny Stewart is a mining engineer, Fellow of the Australian Academy of Technical Sciences and Engineering and founder and CEO of mining AI software company Petra Data Science. Penny worked on mine sites for five years in Tasmania and Western Australia before obtaining her Queensland 1st Class Mine Managers’ Certificate of Competency. She commenced PhD studies at UQ’s Julius Kruttschnitt Mineral Research Centre, where she received the Ian Morley prize for Best Minerals Engineering Postgraduate student. In 2009, she instigated the application of self-organising maps (neural networks) for the study of SLC recovery analysis. In June 2015, Penny founded PETRA to extract value from mining data. PETRA is a world-leading provider of machine learning and optimisation solutions to the global mining industry, including their flagship MAXTATM digital twin value chain optimisation suite. In 2016, PETRA collaborated with Newcrest Mining to develop and deploy some of the mining industry's first machine learning algorithms.

Tony is an experienced engineer and executive, who worked in the resources sector for over 30 years, with over 25 professional years of expertise in the full life cycle of mineral processing, extraction, refine and complex chemical projects, from concepts development, test work, engineering design, construction, commissioning, ramp up to steady production operations. Tony is passionate about developing innovative and sustainable solutions for critical minerals and energy challenges and facilitating industry-academia collaboration and knowledge transfer.
