Biography

Steve Coughlan is the Executive Chairman of the Byrnecut Group, a private suite of companies headquartered in Perth, Western Australia. One of the original founders of Byrnecut, established in Kalgoorlie in 1987, Steve has overseen the growth of the group, which now has annual turnover of nearly $3 billion AUD. Byrnecut Group operates globally and has developed a reputation for professionalism and reliability. The group employs over 6,000 people and operates a multimillion-dollar fleet of specialised underground mining equipment around the globe.

Fostering inclusive, equitable and diverse mining sector workplaces: Why bother?

Biography

Dr Judy Lundy is a lecturer in the management discipline in the School of Business and Law at Edith Cowan University. She has a long career in the education, consulting and hospitality sectors and has taught in leading business schools in Australia, Canada, New Zealand and the Netherlands. Her main research interest is Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) and she was the lead researcher in the team that built the ECU D&I Capability Maturity Model and she led a pilot project using this tool with 2 mining sector organisations in Western Australia. Her 20-plus years as a consultant, most recently with a Big Four firm, gave her opportunities to work across diverse sectors and develop a deep understanding of complex issues of workplace transformation. Dr Lundy is passionate about building adaptive, inclusive and thriving workplaces through developing inclusive leaders and workplace practices which maximise benefits for individuals and organisations. She has a DBA from University of Newcastle, an MBA (HRM) from University of New England and a Bachelor of Adult Education from the University of Canberra.

Biography

Jasmin Bentink is in her final year of a Bachelor of Environmental Science and Management at The University of Western Australia, where she has built a strong foundation in environmental systems, sustainability, and resource management. She is currently the Undergraduate Environmental Advisor with Green Values Australia and recently completed a placement as an Environmental Intern with Epiroc, gaining hands-on experience in SHEQ and operational sustainability. Her drive to make an impact in the resources industry has been recognised widely. In 2025 she was named an Epiroc Women in Mining Ambassador, and she has been awarded multiple scholarships with Rio Tinto, South32, Chevron, and the WA Mining Club. Jasmin has also developed diverse experience across the sector through roles and projects with BHP, CSIRO, Chevron, Epiroc, the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions (DBCA), and the WA Parliament. Alongside her industry and academic achievements, Jasmin is committed to leadership and collaboration. She is current Industry Vice President of the Students of Natural and Agricultural Sciences (SNAGS), Media Coordinator for the AusIMM UWA Student Chapter, and is a member of the WA Mining Club Young Professionals Advisory Committee. Passionate about building a culture of environmental stewardship and workforce education, Jasmin is determined to contribute to a more sustainable, collaborative future for the mining ‘industry
