For more than 15 years, Ms Zsakay worked in the food industry, setting up a food import company in South Korea and later building the world’s largest free database of Asian food regulations while living in Thailand.
Ms Zsakay has a BA(Asian Studies & Politics) from the University of Western Australia and has studied under a Master’s programme in International and Asian food law from Michigan State University.
She became interested in the design, efficiencies and convenience of recycling collection systems, within the Asian context, when she moved to Thailand after living in South Korea. What started as a serious hobby morphed into a full-time role after she was introduced to the circular economy later founding Circular Economy Asia in 2016.

My research focuses on waste management, including reducing and reusing waste residue.

Environment professional with experience in consulting and management experience in Australia and internationally. I work embedded within mining companies to help manage their impacts and dependencies within social-ecological systems and assist them with integrating core environment and sustainability principles across all levels of their organisation. I specialise in biodiversity, natural capital advisory, and environmental management within the mining sector, and have experience working within environment and rehabilitation teams on projects and operations across all stages of the mining lifecycle. My experience spans across a broad range of commodities (base metals, iron ore, lithium, uranium, bauxite, and boron), and I have cross-jurisdictional environment experience working on greenfield and brownfield mining projects in Australia, Europe, and the Asia-Pacific.

Helen Degeling is a geologist and recognised, influential advocate for minerals development that delivers positive ESG outcomes and meets the demands of a just transition towards decarbonisation. She has previously held roles as a researcher, exploration and mine geologist, and exploration manager for junior precious, base and critical metal explorers, as well as leadership positions in critical minerals and sustainable mining across government and industry. Helen is now Director of Geoscience and Sustainability at Mining3, where she combines her traditional geological expertise and passion for circularity, sustainability and traceability to drive innovation and deliver practical solutions for the resources industry’s ‘next generation’ challenges.
