Biography

Lev Filippov is Full Professor at the National Engineering School of Geology of the University of Lorraine (Nancy, France). With over 40 years of research experience in mineral processing he authored more than 250 peers reviewed and conference papers and 25 patent applications. The main research areas cover the fundamental and applied researches on the surface chemistry and modelling of flotation process to recover the strategic metals from primary and secondary resources.

A former Principal Geoscientist for Rio Tinto, she now works with Datarock, talking with customers about machine learning applications to solving geoscience business problems. Since 2020, Luisa has been driving innovation in geological and geotechnical solutions through advanced computer vision technology for the exploration and mining industries.

Biography

Marika Tiihonen is working as Technology Manager of lithium technologies in Hydrometallurgy Business Line for Metso, Finland. She has M.Sc in Chemical Engineering from Lappeenranta University of Technology, Finland. She has more than 20 years’ background in hydrometallurgy. Her background is in R&D and process engineering. In her current role as a Technology Manager since 2018, she has responsibilities to coordinate process engineering discipline in engineering and delivery projects, sales & marketing support, flowsheet development, R&D and IP. She holds several patents and applications in the field of hydrometallurgy.

Biography

Tony is a Fellow and Chartered Professional member of the Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (FAusIMM-CP) and a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (MAICD). With over 35 years of experience in the resources sector, Tony has more than 28 years of professional expertise spanning the full life cycle of mineral processing, extraction, refining, and complex chemical projects. His work encompasses concept development, test work, engineering design, construction, commissioning, ramp-up, and steady production operations. Tony is passionate about developing innovative and sustainable solutions to critical minerals and energy challenges while facilitating collaboration and knowledge transfer between industry and academia. In his role as a professor of practice and technical research leader, Tony collaborates with academic and research institutions. He recently led cooperative research projects and managed operations at the Cathode Precursor Production Pilot Plant (C4P) at Curtin University. Under his leadership, the project successfully delivered an AUD 15 million Stage 2 program for the Future Battery Industries Cooperative Research Centre (FBICRC), focusing on the development and optimisation of pCAM production using various NCM co-precipitation chemistries for lithium batteries. Additionally, Tony serves as the chair of the AusIMM Perth Branch, where he advocates for professional development and recognition of excellence within the minerals sector in Western Australia.
