Biography

Diane specialises in ESG strategy and assurance for resource companies, supporting project financing, development and operations. With over 20 years of experience in environmental management, social performance, and government affairs, she has advised constructors, operators, investors, and lenders on resource and infrastructure projects worldwide. Her expertise includes strategic planning, risk assessment, approvals, compliance, and reporting, with hands-on experience across Australia, Europe, and the Americas. She has contributed to ESG compliance in due diligence and feasibility studies, aligning with global frameworks such as the Equator Principles, IFC, and World Bank standards. Diane has also conducted technical reviews and audits of mining and processing facilities in Africa and the Americas. Throughout her career, she has worked across project phases, acting as a relationship and environmental specialist to address complex social and environmental challenges affecting project delivery.

Biography

Zac is currently the Processing, Maintenance, and Engineering Manager at IGO Nova, having held several roles at IGO including as a Plant Metallurgist at the Jaguar Copper-Zinc and Nova Nickel-Copper-Cobalt operations, Project Metallurgist on the IGO Nickel Sulfate Pre-Feasibility study, Lead Technical Services Metallurgist providing technical assistance to IGO' Business Development team in M&A, and as Processing Superintendent at Nova. Zac graduated Curtin University in 2014 with a bachelors double degree in Chemical Engineering and Extractive Metallurgy, and is completing a postgraduate research degree on nickel and cobalt processing which is funded by the Future Battery Industries CRC in collaboration with Murdoch University in the project ‘Advancing Certification and Improving Life-Cycle Analysis for Market Advantage’.

She looks to bring an operations-centric view to industry level sustainability issues and opportunities and loves working with clients on the transition from plan to action.

Under his leadership, Modifying Factors provides services such as project strategy, scenario planning, governance, multi-factor risk management, and ESG compliance, with a focus on sectors including resources, renewables, and infrastructure.

Biography

Narelle is a long-term advocate for the importance of the ESG and SR function in delivering results and enhancing value for the mining sector for almost 30 years. She is passionate about empowering teams and bringing rigour to the function by her strategic approach and building the capability of practitioners and organisations to reduce impact and maximise benefits. Her experience extends from operational to corporate for both large and mid-tier companies exposing her to several commodity types, business models and development approaches in variety of complex jurisdictions. Narelle has developed and driven strategies, systems and processes that assess, lift, monitor and report on internal and external performance. Her knowledge combined with a hands-on technical background and collaborative approach has informed development, built partnerships, guided research, established enduring relationships, provided innovative solutions, and delivered integrated sustainable outcomes. Narelle began her career as a geologist and has been an AusIMM member since 1995. Since then, she has served on the Hunter Branch committee, was a member of both the Sustainability Committee and Community and Environment Society, wrote and peer reviewed papers, and was also an AusIMM employee in a policy capacity. After more than 20 years she returns to AusIMM bringing the breadth of her industry, operational and technical experience to support the advancement the professional standards of our sector and AusIMM’s 14,000 members.

Biography

Damian Vassallo brings 25+ years of expertise in technology and engineering; previous work included BHP, Rio Tinto, South32, SUEK and Exxaro, as well as verticals such as Nuclear Energy, and Petro-Chemical. He has managed complex projects in the construction phase, worked in underground coal mines in the Bowen Basin and developed technology platforms in Coal Seam Gas, Mine Production Planning, and Geological Modelling. Damian is responsible for leading, managing and directing all of the MMM-related activities in the region and is a key contributor to the MMM global strategy for Honeywell.
