Strategies for heat management in hot volcanic underground mines
4:40 PM - 5:05 PMBiography
Marle Hooman is a registered chartered professional engineer and registered professional engineer in Queensland. In her 17 years at BBE, Marle has gained experience in pre-feasibility and feasibility studies, control budget estimates, and detailed engineering design, including procurement and construction management assistance (EPCM) for various surface and underground cooling and refrigeration systems in national and international mines. She is competent in using VUMA3D-network, VUMA-coal, and VentSim simulation software for mine ventilation network analysis. Marle is currently the Managing Director of BBE Consulting Australasia. She has also led engineering teams as a professional engineer in positions including lead engineer and project manager for the last thirteen years. Marle holds her master’s in mining engineering and a Mine Environmental Control Certificate from MVSSA.
Ms Melissa Brown
Engineer
Hatch
Onaping Depth Project – Underground Refrigeration Plant Update
5:05 PM - 5:30 PMBiography
Melissa is a senior engineer in the Industrial Clean Technology group at Hatch. She has a bachelor of science in chemical engineering from Queen’s University in Canada and is licensed under Professional Engineers Ontario.
Her work at Hatch has centered around mine ventilation and cooling applications, ranging from conceptual to detailed engineering phases. Melissa has completed multiple studies in brownfield and greenfield mining applications to optimize the cooling plant type and location. Through this work, she has had significant experience performing heat transfer calculations, developing equipment specifications, and working with heat exchanger vendors to optimize the equipment selection for the specific application.
Recently, Melissa’s work has focused on decarbonization efforts in mine ventilation applications, examining alternative technologies to traditional mine air heating and cooling methods.
