Perth Room

Speaker

Ms Kristen Boyd
Gas Handling & Mine Ventilation
Hatch

Examining Use of Absorption Chillers to Produce Mine Air Cooling from Power Generation Plant Waste Heat in Remote Sites

4:15 PM - 4:40 PM

Biography

Kristen is an engineer in the Industrial Clean Technology group at Hatch. She has a bachelor of science in chemical engineering from Queen’s University in Canada. Her work at Hatch has centered around mine ventilation and cooling applications, ranging from conceptual to detailed engineering phases. Kristen has completed multiple studies in brownfield and greenfield mining applications including ventilation network design and trade-off studies, ventilation / cooling optimization studies, electrification studies, and overall ventilation network audits. Through this work, she has seen projects through to execution, defining the optimum ventilation and refrigeration configuration for each site while working closely with the mining team to efficiently incorporate mine design updates and preserve the ventilation philosophy through mine design iterations. Recently, Kristen’s work has focused on decarbonization efforts in mine ventilation applications

Environmental Noise Assessment and Abatement of Surface Primary Ventilation Systems.

4:40 PM - 5:05 PM

Biography

Mr Frédéric Klose
Research Engineer
LKAB

Considering climate change for potential long-life mine cooling projects located in the subarctics

5:05 PM - 5:30 PM

Biography

After completing his mining engineering education at the University of Leoben, Austria, Frédéric moved up north to join LKAB’s Mining R&D department as a Research Engineer in 2022. He is part of a small but growing team that investigates strategic ventilation topics for the future expansion of the Malmberget mine. Mine climate modelling and radon are his areas of interest when he is not navigating the scenic routes of the Swedish Lapland countryside looking for cottages and lakes to paddle on in his spare time.
