Biography

Florian Michelin is the Howden Ventsim Pty Ltd Managing Director. Florian Michelin is a mechanical engineer, specialising in computational fluid dynamics. He started as a software developer at Chasm Consulting (now owned by Chart Industries), developing new features and improving simulation algorithms in VentsimĀ®. This led to the development of PumpsimĀ®, a software for liquid pipe flow simulation. Florian became the product manager for Pumpsim, as well as trainer and consultant using Ventsim and Pumpsim. Now, as the managing director for Howden Ventsim Australia, he is responsible for development, sales, training, and consulting activities for Ventsim and Pumpsim products.

Biography

Hongbin Zhang is a principal engineer in the Strategic Mine Planning team at Vale Base Metals corporate office. His responsibilities include corporate strategic mine planning and optimization for the company's mines around the globe (e.g., Brazil, Indonesia, Canada), mitigating risk and maximizing opportunities for the life-of-mine plans. He is a licensed professional engineer in Ontario, Canada. Hongbin obtained a Ph.D. degree in mining engineering, specializing in mine ventilation, from Laurentian University in 2020 in Canada. He also has an M.Sc. degree in mining engineering, specializing in mine ventilation, from Virginia Tech in 2015 in the USA. He received B.Eng. and B.Sc. degrees from the China University of Mining and Technology (in China) and the University of Kentucky (in the USA) in mining engineering, respectively, in 2013.

Biography

Dr. Anu Martikainen holds a Ph.D. in Mining Engineering from the Helsinki University of Technology in Finland. She has 20 years of experience within mine ventilation, health and safety, mine planning, and project management. In Finland, she has worked extensively in planning and analyzing mine ventilation systems for underground mines. Dr. Martikainen has also worked for the NIOSH Pittsburgh Research Laboratory as a Research Engineer and a Principal Investigator. Currently, Dr. Martikainen works as a Ventilation Specialist for LKAB in Sweden. In this position, she is responsible for long-term strategic ventilation planning for all LKAB mines. This includes reaching new main levels in Kiruna and Malmberget mines, taking Svappavaara mine underground, and planning for a new deposit, Per Geijer, while considering new technologies, sustainability, and feasibility.
