Biography

Jarrod Bassan has over 25 years of experience working with the mining industry in the adoption of digital technology. He started his career with BHP and specialised in operational systems for the iron ore supply chain. Subsequently he worked with coal and other mineral commodities, as well as power transmission and manufacturing to enable new operating models enabled by the adoption of technology. He currently leads Hatch's Integrated Operations and Remotization practice in the Australia region, where his focus is on establishing improved decision-making capabilities across the mining and metals value chains.

Biography

Lena Abrahamsson is professor in Human Work Science and scientific leader of the strategic university-wide area “Creaternity” at Luleå University of Technology. Her own current research projects deal with the work of the future in the green and digital industrial transition, many of them with a focus on gender and organisation, in the mining and steel industry.

Biography

Daniel Brown is a young Systems Engineer at Nova Systems in the Autonomous and Intelligent Systems team dedicated to solving the problems that really matter to clients. Daniel has delivered systems engineering services in a variety of domains including Defence, mining, and rail and has presented on the topic of modelling in space-mining at the 2023 Off-Earth Mining Forum. Daniel has passions for model-based systems engineering and sustainable engineering and believes that only through cross-sector collaboration can we continue to grow as industries and as a society.

Biography

I, Annika Pekkari, will present our research results regarding the miners of the future. I was born and raised in Luleå, which is a city by the Arctic Circle in northern Sweden. My academic background is in sociology, but I am doing a PhD in human work science at Luleå University of Technology. My research area is the effects of the green transition on future mining work.

Biography

Yhana Lanwin (she/her) (LLB, BComm, GAICD, Leading Strategic Change and Growth (Columbia Business School) and Inclusive Leadership Through Behavioural Science (London School of Economics)) is an experienced strategy and transformation leader who has worked across industrial automation, knowledge management and digital projects throughout the resources and energy sector including AutoHaul® the world’s first autonomous heavy-haul train network, Chevron’s Subsurface Data Management Programme, BHP’s Technology Work Management and Rio Tinto’s Rail and Mine Productivity Programs. Yhana started her career consulting with Accenture before joining The Terrace Initiative in 2014 where she led the company’s research and development division. She has also held senior leadership roles in the mining industry, most recently as Pilbara Mine Operations Manager Mines Performance (Chief of Staff) for Rio Tinto.​ Yhana is the Founder and CEO of Sans Prejudice Solutions an inclusion and diversity start-up.

Biography

Dr. Schafrik is an Associate Professor of Mining Engineering and Faculty Fellow of the James B. Beam Institute for Kentucky Spirits at the University of Kentucky. He is very active in SME, serving many roles, including the Vice-Chair of the Coal and Energy Division, Past-Chair of the Central Appalachian Section, and Founding Secretary/Treasurer of the Eastern Collegiate Mine Rescue Organization.
