Marcus Valastro, a dual-degree holder from the University of Sydney with a Bachelor of Mechatronics Engineering (Honours) and a Bachelor of Commerce (Finance), embarked on his mining journey in 2019 as a reliability engineer. His passion lies at the intersection of engineering innovation and economic practicality, ensuring the solutions he develops are both advanced and financially viable. Working over several years with Corehesion has seen him partner extensively with mining operations, delivering innovative solutions to address their pressing operational concerns in a practical way. A highlight of his career has been his collaborative thesis on the Intelligent Risk Mitigation System for Underground Coal Mine Explosions. This project, a joint effort with Corehesion and an associated underground coal mine, demonstrates a commitment to enhancing safety standards in the industry. With a passion for safety, productivity, and innovation, he continues to champion operational improvements and is eager to explore new frontiers in mine health and safety.

Peter has 20+ years’ practical experience working in Occupational Hygiene and allied health roles across Australia and New Zealand.
He is a Certified Occupational Hygienist (COH)® with the Australian Institute of Occupational Hygienists (MAIOH) and is a Full Member of the New Zealand Occupational Hygiene Society (MNZOHS), registered HASANZ professional, and an Associate Member of Royal Australian Chemical Institute (RACI).
Peter’s career includes roles spanning both consulting and corporate hygiene work, in mining, oil & gas, public health, defence industry, construction and manufacturing industries, commonwealth, and local government projects. This broad experience enables him to provide industries and business groups with comprehensive and practical health risk assessments, exposure control guidance, and health & hygiene management programs.
Peter’s communication skills have been developed through previous sales and training experience with hygiene equipment manufacturers. These personable skills, combined with extensive field experience, enables him to provide practical training support for selection, use and operation (as well as identifying limitations) of occupational hygiene monitoring equipment and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
