Abstract

Biography

Robin Burgess-Limerick is Professor of Human Factors in the Mining Industry Safety and Health Centre at The University of Queensland. Robin is an experienced human factors and ergonomics researcher and consultant across a range of industries particularly mining across a broad range of topics including mining automation, human-machine interface design, equipment design to reduce injury risks, manual task risk management, and whole body vibration measurement and management. He is a Certified professional member (CPE), past-president, and Fellow of the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society of Australia. Chief investigator on research projects > $8M, author of > 100 refereed papers, chapters and books including "Human Factors for the Design, Operation and Maintenance of Mining Equipment” (Horberry, Burgess-Limerick & Steiner, 2011); "Human-Centered Design for Mining Equipment and New Technology” (Horberry, Burgess-Limerick & Steiner, 2018) & "Human Systems Integration for Mining Automation” (Burgess-Limerick et al, under contract).

Biography

Yhana Lanwin (she/her) (LLB, BComm, GAICD, Leading Strategic Change and Growth (Columbia Business School) and Inclusive Leadership Through Behavioural Science (London School of Economics)) is an experienced strategy and transformation leader who has worked across industrial automation, knowledge management and digital projects throughout the resources and energy sector including AutoHaul® the world’s first autonomous heavy-haul train network, Chevron’s Subsurface Data Management Programme, BHP’s Technology Work Management and Rio Rinto’s Rail and Mine Productivity Programs. Yhana started her career consulting with Accenture before joining The Terrace Initiative in 2014 where she led the company’s research and development division. She has also held senior leadership roles in the mining industry, most recently as Pilbara Mine Operations Manager Mines Performance (Chief of Staff) for Rio Tinto.​ Yhana is the Founder and CEO of Sans Prejudice Solutions an inclusion and diversity start-up.

Development and implementation of a digital sleep and circadian management tool for optimising sleep, health and safety in shift workers

Biography

Dr Tracey Sletten is a Senior Lecturer with the Turner Institute for Brain and Mental Health and School of Psychological Sciences, Monash University. She leads the Circadian Misalignment and Shift Work Laboratory at Monash University, and is an inaugural Australian Research Council Industry Fellow. Following her PhD examining the effects of shift work and fatigue in occupational settings, she was awarded an EU Marie Curie Fellowship for postdoctoral training at the University of Surrey (UK). She has held a Visiting Research Fellow position with the Division of Sleep Medicine at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School in Boston, USA. Dr Sletten is recognised as one of Australia’s foremost researchers in sleep and circadian disruption in shift workers, leading large-scale trials of sleep, circadian timing, alertness, and psychological health in multiple unique industry settings. This includes programs in nursing and medical staff, heavy vehicle drivers, manufacturing and expeditioners over-wintering in Antarctica. Dr Sletten is leading globally recognised research in the Australian aviation industry providing world-first sleep, circadian and alertness data in flight and cabin crew during the longest passenger flights in history.
